Senior stars gearing up for baseball classic debut


The inaugural Anne Arundel Senior All-Star Baseball Classic will be played at 6 p.m. tomorrow at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Sponsored by the Friends of Joe Cannon Committee, the game will showcase the county's top graduating players.

Class 2A state champion Northeast has four players on the North. Broadneck and Arundel put four each on the South, which also features three players from Severna Park. Glen Burnie and Chesapeake each placed three players on the North roster.

Jim Pitt (Severna Park), Larry Brogden (Annapolis) and Ken Dunn (South River) will coach the South, while the North will be led by Bruce Sider (Glen Burnie), Jim Simms (Chesapeake) and Mel Montgomery (Old Mill).

North roster:

Northeast -- Rich Spiegel (catcher), Derek Dolch (outfielder), and infielders Chad O'Brien and K.C. Murphy; Glen Burnie -- Tony Saunders (pitcher/first base), and infielders Shannon Cavey and Dave Lanham; Chesapeake -- Jimmy Wolfe (pitcher), and pitcher/infielders Darrell Keith and Jason Siemer; Old Mill -- Mike Mahoney (catcher) and Mark Bailey (outfielder); North County -- outfielder John Bilheimer; Archbishop Spalding -- Pat Calabrese (outfielder/infielder); Meade -- pitcher Ian Taylor.

South roster:

Arundel -- Brian Rolocut (pitcher), Chris Durocher (outfielder/third base), Curt Odar (catcher) and Tre Overstreet (infielder); Broadneck -- Jeff Vincent (pitcher/shortstop), Matt Weimer (pitcher/shortstop), Larry Krzyzaniak (catcher) and Cliff McClain (third base); Severna Park -- Steve Neuberger (center fielder), Rob McCandless (pitcher/infielder) and J.J. Novak (second base); South River -- Al Lee (infielder) and Kevin Richardson (catcher/first base); Annapolis -- Ty Selby (catcher/outfielder); Southern -- Eric Hammett (pitcher/outfielder).
