Mabel Gladys Walker, a home care provider and dedicated church member, died of a heart attack March 31 at her home in Baltimore. She was 88.
Born in Virginia, she came to Baltimore with her parents when very young. She was educated in the public schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School.
She was a member of the Waxter Center and the center's Sacred Singers.
Ms. Walker was a longtime member of the St. James United Methodist Church at Monroe and Lexington streets. She was a steward, usher and charter member of the church's Flower Circle. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Albert H. Hammond Thrift Club, a group at St. James that held events to benefit the church's scholarship fund.
Survivors include a niece, Sonja Dorsey Brewer; a great-nephew, Kevin Dorsey; and a great-niece, Nicole Preston; all are of Baltimore. She is also survived by many relatives.
Services were held April 4 at St. James.
