Baltimorean John Brown Jr. won the $5,000 national grand prize in the Fair Lanes league bowler sweepstakes conducted at 112 bowling centers across the United States during April.

Brown, 23, a landscaper who bowls in the Traffic Club Duckpin League at Perring Parkway, carried a 115 average for April and

was selected at random as the national winner.

Sue Marchone, of Olney, Jeff Pyles, of Hyattsville, and Billy Robertson, of Port Tobacco, plus Buddy Creamer, of Glen Allen, Va., were enshrined during ceremonies May 1.

Marchone, who at one time had the best women's average in the world for four years, bowled a high game of 215 and high set of 497.
