Here's what to look for if you...


Here's what to look for if you are traveling in the Baltimore metropolitan area this week.

New highway projects

Interstate 695, inner and outer loops, from Reisterstown Road to Greenspring Avenue -- Through July 1, expect daily lane closings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for patching and paving.

U.S. 50 bridge over Sinepuxent Bay at Ocean City -- Monday through Friday, one lane in each direction will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for mechanical repairs to the bridge. Temporary 10-minute closures in both directions will occur occasionally. During the same period, the bridge will be closed to marine traffic.

Route 175, between U.S. 1 and Gateway Drive -- Continuing through the fall, repaving will require single-lane closures during off-peak hours. All lanes will remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Flag people will control traffic flow during single-lane closures.

U.S. 50/301 from the Patuxent River to the Severn River -- From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., expect lane closures on eastbound and westbound U.S. 50/301 to overlay existing pavements and to place temporary concrete barriers.

York Road, Route 45 -- Expect lane closures from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday between Fairmount and Bellona avenues for paving.

I-95, at the westbound Eastern Avenue access ramp to southbound I-95 -- Ramp will be closed for about 45 days beginning at 9 a.m. to facilitate repaving and bridge repairs on I-95.

Bus route changes:

The MTA has scheduled the following bus route changes for this week. For more information, call 539-5000; TTY for the hearing-impaired, 539-3497.

Memorial Day Service

On Monday, May 25, light rail, Metro and MARC trains will not run because of the holiday. MTA buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Constellation Classic Foot Race

Nos. 7, 8, 10 (Inner Harbor), 19, 27, 61, 62, 64 -- The closure of several streets for the Constellation Classic Foot Race today, will temporarily reroute buses between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

African Shrine Festival

No. 21 -- Between noon and 11 p.m. today, buses will be rerouted because of the African Shrine Festival in the 1600-1700 blocks of Westwood Ave. and the 1700 block of Calhoun St. When westbound, buses will travel the regular route to Gilmor and Presstman streets, then east on Presstman, north on Calhoun, west on Baker Street, south on Gilmor, then layover on Gilmor at Presstman. When eastbound from the layover, buses will follow the regular route.

St. Casimir Church Carnival

No. 22 (Lakewood and O'Donnell service) -- The St. Casimir Church Carnival on the north side of O'Donnell Street between Lakewood and Kenwood avenues will temporarily reroute buses from 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, through 11 p.m. Saturday, May 30, and again from 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, through 11 p.m. Saturday, June 6. When eastbound, buses will travel the regular route to O'Donnell and Linwood Avenue, then north on Linwood, west on Dillon Street, south on Lakewood, then east on O'Donnell to Streeper Street for layover. No change in westbound service.

Temporary route changes

Nos. 1, 2, 11, 20, 140, 310, 311 -- Until further notice, the transit stop eastbound on Baltimore Street at Greene Street has been temporarily discontinued because of construction. Passengers of these lines may not board or discharge at this location. Bus bays for the Nos. 8, 9, 35 and 36 lines are not affected.

No. 11 (Lutherville service) -- Construction work has closed the Lutherville Park-and-Ride bus loop until further notice, temporarily rerouting buses. Northbound via regular route on York Road to Ridgely Road, north on York, west on Timonium Road, south on Aylesbury Road to the temporary layover in advance of York. Southbound from layover, east on Aylesbury, south on York to Ridgely, then via regular route.

Nos. 14, 28 (Cherry Hill), 51 (Cherry Hill), 64 -- In Westport, the temporary closure of Waterview Avenue between Cherry Hill Road and Sidney Avenue until 6 a.m. tomorrow, due to light-rail construction, will reroute buses. Southbound via current route on Annapolis Road to Wenburn Street, east on Wenburn, south on Kloman Street, east on Waterview, then via regular route. Northbound via current route west on Waterview to Kloman, north on Kloman, west on Wenburn, west on Russell Street, then via regular route.

Nos. 23 Express, 160 -- The ramp from westbound Eastern Avenue to southbound I-95 is closed for construction, temporarily diverting buses until further notice. Westbound via regular route on Eastern Avenue to I-95, west on Eastern, south on Kane Street, south on Dundalk Avenue, west on Boston Street, west on Interstate Avenue, south on I-95, then via regular route. No change eastbound.

Permanent route change

No. 1 (Port Covington service) -- Effective immediately, the new permanent route of this bus line when southbound is via regular route on Key Highway to McComas Street, west on McComas, south on Hanover Street, south on West Cromwell Street, then east on West Cromwell to the designated layover. Northbound layover, east and north on West Cromwell, east on McComas, then via regular route.

No. 18 -- All trips to downtown Baltimore and Hereford have been discontinued now that this bus line is a feeder line to the new light-rail system that opened May 18. Instead, buses now operate Monday through Friday between Hunt Valley Mall and the Timonium Park-and-Ride, the terminus of the light rail line, where passengers can transfer to continue their trip downtown.

Continuing diversion

No. 9 -- With York Road closed to southbound traffic at Allegheny Avenue, northbound buses are diverted from regular route to York and Pennsylvania Avenue, north on York, north on Dulaney Valley Road, west on Fairmount Avenue, north on York, then via regular route. Southbound via regular route to York and Fairmount, east on Fairmount, south on Dulaney Valley, south on York, then via regular route.
