Teen-agers arrested after theft, trespassing
Two boys have been charged with stealing a car and two with trespassing in separate incidents.
Police arrested two Anne Arundel County boys early Wednesday night in connection with the theft of a white Toyota from a house in the 7000 block of Winter Rose Path in Columbia. Police on patrol near Cedar Motel in Jessup saw a Toyota and a Nissan pull into a driveway of a freight trucking company, where the occupants exchanged cars.
The cars then traveled south on U.S. 1 and turned onto Mission Road, where the occupants of the Toyota stopped the car and fled on foot and the Nissan sped away.
Police broadcast a description of the suspects and returned to Cedar Motel, where they arrested a 14-year-old Fort Meade youth and a 15-year-old Severn youth.
Police said the ignition of the Toyota had been forced, and the owners of the car did not know it had been stolen.
Police said the youths, who were released to their parents' custody, did not reveal the identities of the occupants in the other car.
In an unrelated incident, two 14-year-old Elkridge boys were arrested for allegedly entering a home under construction at the 6700 block of Fox Catcher Court Monday night. Police said they were released into their parents' custody.
2 mall patrons robbed at gunpoint
Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred within minutes of each other at the Columbia Mall last week.
Police said a 49-year-old woman was leaving Hecht's department store at around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday when two unidentified men got out of a gray car. One of the men flashed a silver handgun and demanded her purse and shopping bags.
Minutes later, two men robbed a 65-year-old man of his wallet and watch as he was getting into his car at the west side of the Hecht's parking lot, police said.
After the mall robberies, police said, a customer at a Catonsville shopping center on U.S. 40 and Rolling Road was also robbed.
Police suspect all the robberies were committed by the same men because similar descriptions were given by all three victims. Police said the suspects were driving a 1992 gray Honda Accord, which was reported stolen from Anne Arundel County.
