Activities/hobbies: Enjoys writing and reading; teaches in the county's extended enrichment program and graduate classes in writing at Western Maryland College; working on research with the National Center for Reading

Accomplishments: Research award from the state's International Reading Association and a grant from the state Center for Critical Thinking; has written several articles on classroom adaptations of research-based reading strategies

Recipient's comments: "I was surprised and overwhelmed by the honor and yet, I feel it goes to the whole reading department at the college. We all worked so hard together to accomplish so many things. The honor belongs to every one of us."
