Wotring recovers after collapse at hearings

Myron V. Wotring, County Executive Robert R. Neall's legislative liaison, was resting at home yesterday after he experienced respiratory problems and collapsed during County Council budget hearings Wednesday night.

Wotring, 61, was in the lobby outside the council chambers talking with other Neall aides when he leaned against a wall and fainted at about 9:45 p.m., according to county officials.

Ann H. Herring, his assistant, said he was conscious and responsive when paramedics arrived to take him to Anne Arundel General Hospital, where he was discharged at about 1:30 a.m.

Physicians said the fainting spell occurred when his heart rate slowed, and that it could have been caused by stress or fatigue, Herring said.

As Neall's legislative liaison, Wotring has been working extensively in recent weeks to help the executive win council support for his $634 million budget.

Wotring was expected to return to work today, Herring said.
