Dunleavy quits L.A. for Bucks

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Mike Dunleavy departed as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday and opened the door to speculation about a number of possible successors, including RTC one who may not seem so unlikely when the team begins to narrow its list of candidates.

Magic Johnson as Lakers coach?

If Johnson expresses interest, the Lakers just might be willing to discuss the vacancy.

Jerry West, the team's general manager, said he hadn't thought about a replacement for Dunleavy, who left to accept the coaching job with the Milwaukee Bucks, but he wouldn't rule out the former Lakers star.

Dunleavy, a former player and assistant coach for Milwaukee, said the eight-year agreement with the Bucks was too good to refuse.
