Man, 37, mugged at elementary school

A 37-year-old Columbia man was robbed at knifepoint Monday at Talbot Springs Elementary School as he walked home from work, police said.

The man was crossing the rear ball field of the school about 11:15 p.m. when the suspect approached him from behind, displayed a 6-inch knife and demanded his money, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was said to be wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

FBI arrests pair in Elkridge theft

Two Columbia residents were arrested in Fort Pierce, Fla. Monday and charged with stealing over $186,000 from an Elkridge business and transporting the money through interstate commerce.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Florida arrested Antonio and Silvana Severino, both of the 11000 block of Gold Needle Way, said Bobby R. Gillham, special agent in charge of the Maryland-Delaware division of the FBI.

Antonio Severino, comptroller of United States Electrofuse in Elkridge, is charged with making two wire transfers from a company account to an account set up by his wife at Maryland National Bank.

The two transfers were made April 27 and 29 and totaled $540,100.

Silvana Severino had opened the account April 21 in the name of "Dickman Inc." of Jessup, Gillham said.

According to FBI agents, she purchased two certified checks from Maryland National Bank totaling $186,250 and deposited them into two bank accounts in Florida.
