A 203-year-old amendment

A constitutional amendment to restrain congressional salaries, having received enough state votes for ratification after 203 years, is still valid, according to 86 percent of callers to SUNDIAL (299 out of 347). Forty-eight callers (13 percent) think it is not valid.

An overwhelming majority of 345 callers (96 percent to 3 percent, on a tally of 332 to 13) registered the opinion that Congress should not grant its members a midterm pay raise.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
