Man shot after argument over dancing

A 20-year-old Ellicott City man was shot and seriously wounded early today after dancing with another man's girlfriend at a South Baltimore nightclub, police said.

Wendall Zimmerman, of the 3200 block of Normandy Drive, was in serious condition at the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center with a gunshot wound of the neck.

Ronald Vaughters, 19, of the 1600 block of Belt St., was charged with attempted murder and use of a handgun in a felony.

Homicide Detective Frank Barlow said Mr. Zimmerman was with several men in Hammerjack's in the 1100 block of S. Howard St. and Mr. Vaughters was with another group.

Detective Barlow said Mr. Zimmerman and his friends and Mr. Vaughters and his group left the nightclub at the 2 a.m. closing time.

A verbal challenge was issued in the parking lot about the way the victim had been dancing with the woman, police said. An argument continued to the 1200 block of Leadenhall St., at the rear of the club, where the shooting occurred.

Mr. Vaughters was arrested in the 3800 block of Leadenhall St. in Brooklyn, police said.
