Pasadena super middleweight "Irish" Carson McCourry is among the fighters scheduled to appear at Round One Promotions' dinner/boxing show on Wednesday, May 20, at Michael's 8th Avenue.
McCourry will meet Richard Duke of Virginia in a four-round bout.
In other fights, Cecil Simms of Baltimore will meet Keith King of Virginia in a six-round light heavyweight battle. Welterweight George Greenhow of Washington will face Chris Lucas of Rockville in another six-rounder.
Junior middleweight Gerard Jordon of Loch Raven will meet Mike Duncan of Washington in a four-rounder, and "Punching" Pete Purdy of New Jersey will square off against Elvis Deloach of Virginia in a four-round light heavyweight bout. In the main event, middleweight Gerry Walker of Loch Raven will appear in a six-rounder against an undetermined opponent.
Matchmaker Josh Hall said popular Glen Burnie junior welterweight Chuck Sturm (22-3-1), who hasn't fought since November 1990 because of an eye injury, may make his comeback on the June 25 card at Michael's.
"I'm ready to roll again," said Sturm, 27, who grew up in Millersville and attended Old Mill High School. "My body's in shape and I'm down to weight at 140."
His last fight was a controversial loss to Vinnie Burgese in Atlantic City. He had been suffering from double vision in his right eye shortly before the fight, but says he has been "seeing normal for the past 2 1/2 months" and has been in training for the last month and a half.
Sturm will take a physical examination next Friday and anticipates scheduling an eye exam "sometime next week."
"I discussed it with my wife [Tracey] and she decided to be very supportive," he said of the comeback. "I told her that if I see any change [in the eye], either in sparring or in the fight, I would hang it up for good."
