ASSAULT/ROBBERY: Central District -- Police reported that a man with no permanent address was in critical condition today at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was struck with a baseball bat during a robbery last night in the 100 block of Ware St., just off the 2400 block of St. Paul St. Police said that around 11 p.m., Ronald Eason, 41, was walking on Ware Street when he was stopped by two men who asked him for money to buy food. Police said Mr. Eason gave $20 to the men, who noticed that he had more money in his pocket. One of the men then picked up a baseball bat that was laying in the street and struck Mr. Eason over the head, knocking him to the pavement. The two men then robbed Mr. Eason of more money before escaping on foot. Police said a passerby assisted the robbery victim to St. Paul Street, where they summoned an police officer.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A resident of the 1300 block of John St. reported she was in her back yard shortly after 10 p.m. yesterday when she was accosted by two men, one of whom told her he was armed with a weapon. The woman told police the men stole her purse containing cash and property valued at several hundred dollars. Police said the men also robbed the woman of several pieces of jewelry.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Police said a resident of the 1700 block of N. Calvert St. was near his home around 11 p.m. yesterday when he was stopped by a man armed with a knife who ordered him to give up his money. Police said the victim complied and gave up nearly $200.

SHOOTING: Northwestern District -- Police reported a resident of the 3900 block of Flowerton Ave. was shot in the leg as he standing in the 5200 block of Park Heights Ave. Dewayne Spady was at the corner of Park Heights and Belvedere avenues shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a bullet fired by an unknown person. Police said Mr. Spady was taken by ambulance to Sinai Hospital, where he was listed today in good condition.

SHOOTING: Northwestern District -- Police said a man was shot Tuesday afternoon while walking in the rear of Frederick Douglass High School in the 2300 block of Gwynns Falls Parkway. Police said Mark Powell, of the 3500 block of W. Garrison Ave., was walking near the school around 3 p.m. Tuesday when someone fired a shot that struck him in the upper leg. Police said Mr. Powell was taken to an area hospital for treatment and that no arrest had been made. Police said it was not known if Mr. Powell had been shot intentionally or was struck by a stray bullet.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- A resident of the 4000 block of Maine Ave. reported he was near his home late Tuesday night when he was accosted by a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun who robbed him of his car. Police said the gunman drove off in the victim's 1977 Buick with Maryland plates SRG-380.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- Police arrested a man and were holding him at the Eastern District pending charges in connection with the beating of a 21-year-old resident of the 1300 block of Homestead St. during an incident near the victim's home Tuesday night. Police said the victim was attacked by a man known to him who struck him several times in the face, causing an injury to one eye. The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to Union Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. A short time after the attack, police arrested a suspect.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 5000 block of Moravia Road reported that someone broke into his home Tuesday afternoon and stole at least two watches and some cash. Police said the property was valued at nearly $300 and that entry was gained by forcing a front window.

THEFT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- Police responding to a shoplifting at the Kmart store in the 5100 block of Sinclair Lane arrested a man who attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $60. Police said the man was detained by a store security officer until police arrived. Police said the man was being held at the Eastern District lockup pending theft charges.

SHOOTING: Western District -- Police said a resident of the 1000 block of N. Fulton Ave. was listed in fair condition today at an area hospital after he was shot during an incident Tuesday on West Lanvale Street. Police said George Edwards was in the 1700 block of W. Lanvale St. shortly before noon when he was accosted by a man in his 20s who pulled out a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and shot Mr. Edwards in the left leg. Police said Mr. Edwards, who did not recognize the gunman, was admitted to Sinai Hospital.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police said a woman was walking in the 900 block of N. Gilmor St. when she was attacked from behind by two men who stole her purse. The victim, a resident of the 800 block of N. Stricker St., was uninjured and told police that her purse contained a small sum of cash.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 3000 block of Stranden Road reported he was in the 700 block of N. Carrollton Ave. Tuesday afternoon when he was accosted by a man who stole money he was holding. Police said the man escaped with $15 in cash.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police said a man armed with a handgun robbed a resident of the 100 block of N. Poppleton St. Tuesday afternoon while the victim was in the 900 block of W. Baltimore St. The victim told police he was walking along the street around 4 p.m. when he was stopped by a man who ordered him to give up his money while pointing a handgun at him. Police said the gunman got $10 in cash and a watch. The total loss was less than $40.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A female resident of the 1600 block of N. Calhoun St. reported she was walking in the 500 block of Cumberland St. Tuesday night when she was stopped by a man armed with a knife who threatened to cut her if she didn't give up her money. Police said the woman complied, giving the armed man $10 in cash.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Police reported that someone broke into a city-owned rowhouse in the 1700 block of W. Fayette St. that is undergoing renovation and stole 10 sheets of plywood. Police said the plywood was valued at $100 and that entry into the dwelling was through a front basement window.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police said someone broke into a van while it was parked in the 2500 block of Edgecombe Circle North Tuesday and stole two commercial-type floor sanders and other pieces of sanding equipment. The owner of the property, a resident of the block, told police the property was valued at more than $5,000.

SHOOTING: Northern District -- Police said a resident of the 800 block of Argonne Drive was listed in stable condition today after he was shot by one of two men in his home early yesterday. Police said James Wright reported that "Gonzo" and "Robert" wanted him to participate in a drive-by shooting at an unknown location but he refused. Then one of the men shot him. Police said Mr. Wright was being treated at an area hospital.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police today were seeking a man who assaulted an employee of Murry's, a store in the 3400 block of Clifton Ave., during a robbery yesterday that netted the suspect $90. Police said after a man entered the store around 7 p.m. yesterday, he went behind the counter and shoved an employee aside. Police said the man then opened the cash register, removed the money and fled.

Baltimore County

CUTTING/ROBBERY: Towson District -- Police reported that the manager of the High's dairy store in the 7200 block of York Road was about to make a deposit at the Maryland National Bank in the 6700 block of York Road yesterday when he was cut with a razor by one of two men who robbed him of a money bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash. Police said John R. Fisher, 35, was walking across the bank's parking lot about 10:30 a.m. when he was attacked by the pair, one of whom was armed with a straight razor. Mr. Fisher was cut on the right arm. It was not immediatley known if Mr. Fisher was treated at a hospital or at the scene.

ROBBERY: Garrison District -- Police reported a man robbed the Signet Bank in the 9000 block of Liberty Road Tuesday of an undisclosed sum of cash. Police said a thinly-built man entered the bank about 10:45 a.m. and gave a teller a note saying he was armed with a handgun and that he wanted all the $20 bills in her cash drawer. After he was given an undisclosed sum of cash, the man took back the note and escaped. Police said no weapon was displayed during the robbery.

ROBBERY: Parkville District -- A man armed with a handgun robbed a carryout in the Perring Parkway Shopping Center Tuesday night. Police said a man entered the Starlight Chinese Food Carryout in the 2500 block of Cleanleigh Drive around 10:30 p.m. and ordered an employee to give him the contents of the cash register. After taking an undisclosed sum of money, the gunman ran out of the carryout and was seen getting into a car that sped off towards Northern Parkway.

Anne Arundel County

ARRESTS: Millersville -- Two men, one a resident of Glen Burnie and the other a south Baltimore man, were arrested Tuesday and charged with auto theft, following an undercover auto theft, arson and insurance fraud investigation. Tuesday, police raided a house in the 500 block of Dover Road in Glen Burnie and recovered two stolen Ford Mustangs and parts from other stolen Mustangs and vehicle identification number plates. Also recovered was a 1991 Kawasaki motorcycle that police believe also was stolen. Charged with grand theft auto, arson, making a false insurance report and insurance fraud was Frank William Rosso Jr., 19, of the Dover Road address. Also arrested and charged with auto theft was Paul Henry Lamar, 19, of the 1400 block of Patapsco St. in Baltimore. Police said the investigation took place over several months under the direction of Detectives Brian Caver and James Breeden, both of the criminal investigation division's auto theft unit. Police said the case remains under investigation and that other arrests were expected. Bail information on Mr. Rosso and Mr. Lamar was not available.

ROBBERY TRY: Linthicum -- Police today were seeking two men who attempted to rob a gas station in the 700 block of Nursery Road early Tuesday. Police said two men, one armed with a knife, accosted an employee of Frank's Exxon outside the station around 1:30 a.m. and demanded his money. The employee called out for help. Police said one of the men then struck the attendant in the face just before two other attendants came to the victim's assistance. Police said the armed man and his accomplice were chased from the station.

Carroll County

ROBBERY: Westminster -- Westminster police today continued to search for a man who robbed a convenience store of an undisclosed sum of cash over the weekend. Police said a man wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans and a nylon mask over his face entered the High's dairy store on Green and Bishop streets Sunday afternoon and ordered a clerk to give him the contents of the cash register while pointing a blue-steel semi-automatic handgun at her.

BURGLARY: Westminster -- Employees of Westminster Motors on Baltimore Boulevard reported that someone broke into the building on Tuesday and stole the keys to a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro worth more than $16,000 and drove off in it.
