ROBBERY: Northern District -- A man who had trouble opening the cash register at a fast-food restaurant during a robbery last night stole three pieces of chicken instead. Police said that shortly after 9 p.m., a man entered a Popeye's restaurant in the 5000 block of York Road, implied that he had a handgun and ordered a clerk to open the cash register. Police said that when the clerk became nervous and was unable to open the register, the man began pushing the register's buttons but failed to open it. The man then scooped up three pieces of fried chicken and ran out the door. Police said the chicken was worth $2.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A resident of the 2600 block of Maryland Ave. reported she was walking in the 2800 block of Maryland Ave. shortly before midnight Sunday when she was approached from behind by a man who stole the book bag she was carrying. The victim told police the bag contained school books, her wallet, cash and a 35mm camera, all valued at more than $400.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Someone entered a dwelling in the 100 block of Stratford Road over the weekend by breaking out a pane of glass in a door and stole a portable telephone valued at more than $120.

THEFT: Northern District -- Employees of Elco Electric, a contractor in the 9200 block of Harford Road in Parkville, reported that over the weekend someone broke into the firm's storage box at a construction site at Johns Hopkins University, in the 3400 block of N. Charles St., and stole equipment valued at more than $1,000.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Two men, one armed with an unknown object, accosted a resident of the 2700 block of Maryland Ave. yesterday afternoon while he walked in the 2800 block of Maryland Ave. and robbed him of about $40.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the first block of Blythewood Road reported that while her 1992 Ford was parked near her home Sunday night, someone broke into it and stole a radar detector and coins with a total value of nearly $102.

THEFT: Northern District -- A driver for Freehart Transportation, an out-of-state delivery firm, reported that while his tractor and trailer were parked in the 400 block of E. 30th St. late yesterday evening, someone broke into his compartment and stole a bag containing automotive tools. Also taken, the driver told police, was some prescription medicine. Police said the property was valued at more than $300.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 1600 block of E. 30th St. reported he was sitting in his parked car in front of his home shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday when a man wearing a black coat and armed with a handgun approached the car on his side and demanded money. Police said the victim gave the $10 to the gunman, who escaped on foot.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Garrett Ave. was talking on an outside telephone in the 2700 block of Kirk Ave. around 6 p.m. Sunday when a man in a blue sweat suit, carrying a handgun, walked up behind him and demanded money. Police said the gunman removed nearly $150 from the victim's pockets and fled.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Northeastern District -- Police arrested a man last night and were holding him at the Eastern District pending charges that he assaulted another man during an argument in the victim's home in the 1500 block of E. 33rd St. Police said the victim suffered a puncture wound of the left arm and was treated at a hospital and released.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- A man wearing a red jacket, who implied he had a handgun, accosted a resident of the 4100 block of Dudley Ave. as he walked in the 3700 block of Sinclair Lane Sunday night and robbed him of less than $10.

ROBBERY/ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Police arrested two teen-agers yesterday and charged them as juveniles with robbing a 13-year-old girl of property valued at $10 yesterday in the 1300 block of Gorsuch Ave. Police said the victim, a resident of the 1600 block of Chilton St., was not injured. The youths, 13 and 14, were released in the custody of their parents pending action by juvenile authorities.

SHOOTING: Western District -- Jeffrey Bolton, of the 1000 block of W. Fayette St., reported he was in the 1400 block of W. Lexington St. yesterday when he was accosted by two men, one armed with a silver-colored handgun. Police said that when Mr. Bolton attempted to flee, the gunman fired a shot that struck him in the right hip. Police said the gunman and his accomplice escaped and Mr. Bolton was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

Baltimore County

ROBBERY/ARRESTS: Towson District -- Police reported that two men arrested early yesterday in connection with the break-in of a house in the 8600 block of Pleasant Plains Road and the armed robbery of an occupant have been charged. Police said charges of burglary, armed robbery and using a firearm during the commission of a felony were lodged against George Alexander Springer, 24, of the first block of Blondell Court in Lutherville, and Gary R. Gerard, 21, of the 3600 block of Harford Road. Police said Mr. Springer was released from custody after posting $20,000 bond and Mr. Gerard remained in the county's detention center. The amount of his bail was not immediately available. Police said both men were arrested around 3 a.m. yesterday inside a Honda Accord at the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and Cromwell Bridge Road. Officer John Tollen said the car was reportedly seen leaving the crime scene. In the car, police found a shotgun, a baseball bat and money believed to have been taken in the robbery. Police said the house was entered through a basement window.

Anne Arundel County

ASSAULT/ARREST: Brooklyn Heights -- Police yesterday arrested a 15-year-old resident of the 400 block of Audrey Ave. in Brooklyn Heights and charged him as an adult with the attempted murder of an 18-year-old city man. Police, responding to a report of an injured man inside a house at 412 Audrey Ave. yesterday afternoon, entered the dwelling and found the victim, Donnie Jay Thomas, 18, of the 4200 block of Audrey Ave. in the city's Brooklyn section, bleeding from multiple blows to the head. Police said Mr. Thomas was taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center, where today he was listed in critical condition. Police said the victim had gone to the house to retrieve a pair of roller skates when he was reportedly attacked by the suspect and struck several times with a baseball bat. Arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder and assault with intent to murder was Mark Stephen McKenzie, 15, a resident of the house where the attack occurred. Following his arrest, the McKenzie youth appeared before a District Court commissioner, who ordered him held without bail at the county detention center pending a bail review hearing today before a District Court judge.

ROBBERY: Linthicum -- A man robbed the High's dairy store in the 400 block of S. Camp Meade Road over the weekend of more than $100. Police said a man in his early 20s entered the store shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday and removed a pint of milk from a refrigerator. After he placed the milk on the counter, a clerk opened the cash register to make the sale. Police said the man reached into the register, removed $125 and ran out the door.

DRUG ARREST: Glen Burnie -- Police arrested a Baltimore County man over the weekend and charged him with possession of PCP. They said that after an officer stopped the motorist on an Interstate 97 exit ramp near Route 648 to warn him that his 15-day inspection tags allowed him to drive only to and from an inspection station, the officer smelled what he believed to be PCP. Police said that when Officer Arthur J. Hatcher searched the vehicle, he found a plastic bag containing parsley flakes saturated with PCP. The officer also found a vanilla extract bottle with one ounce of liquid PCP and three grams of marijuana. Charged with multiple counts of possession of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia was Craig Anthony Eisenacher, 31, of the 4400 block of Scotia Road in Baltimore Highlands, southwestern Baltimore County.

BURGLARY: Annapolis -- A resident of the 500 block of Bellerive Road reported that someone broke into his home through a door and stole appliances and other household items valued at $300.

BURGLARY: Annapolis -- Tools valued at $100 were reported stolen from a dwelling in the 100 block of Lakeview Drive after someone gained entry through a door.

BURGLARY: Annapolis -- Several pieces of lawn-care equipment were stolen from a dwelling in the 900 block of Manning Drive after someone forcibly entered through a door. Police said the property was valued at $700.

Carroll County

ARSON: Harney -- The state fire marshal said arson is suspected in a fire over the weekend that destroyed a wooden barn in the 5000 block of Bowers Road, causing at least $100,000 in damage to the building and its contents. Reported around 9:20 p.m. Saturday, the fire destroyed about 50 tons of hay and some farm machinery. More than 70 firefighters from five stations, three of them in nearby Pennsylvania, extinguished the fire in less than 30 minutes. Police said a reward is being offered by the Arson Control Association of Maryland for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person or people who started the fire.

Harford County

BURGLARY: Bel Air -- Someone broke into the Bel Air Plaza Cleaners and stole nearly $400 from a locked storage closet.

THEFT: Bel Air -- The owner of a car that was parked in the 500 block of Woodbury Way reported that someone broke into the vehicle and stole stereo equipment valued at more than $700.

THEFT: Bel Air -- Employees of a construction company reported that someone broke into one of their storage trailers while it was parked at a job site in the 2000 block of N. Fountain Green and stole a walkie-talkie, cash and other equipment, all valued at more than $600.
