POLICEMAN ROBBED: Northwestern District -- Officer Kevin Banks, 34, of the Central District, reported he was robbed of his .38-caliber off-duty service revolver, his 1987 Volvo, his body armor and a police department shirt early yesterday by two masked men, one with a handgun, who accosted him as he made a phone call in the 3800 block of Forest Park Ave. Officer Banks reported he was in civilian clothes and talking on the phone at 4:50 a.m. when two men wearing ski masks approached him from behind and announced a robbery. Police said that when Officer Banks reached for his gun, one of the men struck him on the neck with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The men then stole Officer Banks' stainless steel Smith & Wesson Model 60 revolver and drove off in his car with license plate HGA-060. In the car were the body armor and Officer Banks' police shirt. Police said Officer Banks received a minor neck injury that did not require medical treatment.
SHOOTING/ARREST: Eastern District -- Police arrested Kenneth Eugene Crowder, 18, of the 900 block of N. Durham St., and charged him with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old during an argument over a basketball game. Police said that about 6:30 p.m., Dwan Lewis, of the 800 block of N. Broadway, and the accused were involved in a dispute about a basketball game they had played earlier yesterday when the accused went into his house, got a small-caliber handgun and allegedly shot young Lewis in the face. Police said the victim was in critical condition today at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police arrested Mr. Crowder at his house, where he turned over to them a gun believed to have been used in the shooting. Police said Mr. Crowder was charged with assault with intent to murder, using a handgun in the commission of a felony, and assault. He was being held at the station lockup pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.
BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 600 block of N. Carrollton Ave. reported that someone broke into his home last week and stole a clothes washer and a dryer, valued at more than $1,000. Police said the house was undergoing renovations at the time.
ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 1100 block of Whitmore Ave. was walking in the 2300 block of W. Baltimore St. shortly before 4:30 p.m. yesterday when he was stopped by a man who engaged him in conversation. Police said the man pulled out what appeared to be a .38-caliber revolver and ordered the victim to remove the gold necklace he was wearing. Police said the gunman also robbed the victim of food stamps.
ROBBERY: Western District -- Two men, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun, accosted a resident of the 800 block of Edmondson Ave. as he walked in the 900 block of Harlem Ave. late yesterday evening and robbed him of $20.
BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 1800 block of Edmondson Ave. reported that someone broke into his home over the weekend by removing the front door from its hinges and stole a camera, leather coat and close to $150.
BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 1000 block of Claymont Ave. between 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. yesterday by forcing the front door and stole a framed picture valued at $500.
ROBBERY: Western District -- After a resident of the 600 block of N. Fulton Ave. got off a bus in the 600 block of N. Mount St. shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday, he was stopped by two men, one with a handgun, who robbed him of more than $100.
THEFT: Northern District -- Someone broke into two cars parked in the 4700 block of Club Road over the weekend and stole property valued at nearly $275. One victim, a resident of the 1500 block of Glencoe Road in Sparks, Baltimore County, told police that someone broke a window on his 1989 Jeep and stole a Dictaphone valued at $150. The second victim, a resident of the 300 block of Dunkirk Road in Baltimore County, said someone broke the vent window on his 1992 Volvo and stole more than $120 from the glove compartment.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 2800 block of Guilford Ave. reported that someone broke into her home over the weekend and stole a VCR and a bike valued at $600.
THEFT: Northern District -- Someone cut the convertible top of a car parked in the 100 block of Ridgewood Ave. Saturday night or yesterday morning and stole clothing and cassette tapes valued at more than $1,000.
THEFT: Northern District -- An out-of-town resident told police someone broke into her car while it was parked in the 5500 block of St. Albans Way over the weekend and stole stereo speakers and a gym bag valued at more than $600.
THEFT: Northern District -- Police were seeking a man who reportedly entered a dwelling in the 4400 block of Falls Bridge Drive between April 1 and April 8 and stole property valued at more than $16,600. Police said the victim, who apparently knows the man, reported he stole more than $1,600 and five diamond rings.
THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 1600 block of Pentwood Road said his Ford truck was parked in the 500 block of Willow Ave. yesterday when someone broke into it through a window and stole hand and power tools and a chain saw. Police said the property was valued at more than $1,000.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- Property valued at nearly $1,800 was stolen from a dwelling in the 3500 block of N. Calvert St. after someone entered the house over the weekend through a second-floor window. The intruder escaped with a VCR, diamond ring and a camera.
ROBBERY: Northern District -- A resident of the 1400 block of Union Ave. reported she was in the 1600 block of Union Ave. around 9 p.m. yesterday when she was assaulted by a man who pushed her aside and robbed her of $100.
THEFT: Northern District -- A student at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in the 4700 block of N. Charles St. reported that while her 1986 BMW was parked on school property between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. yesterday, someone broke into the vehicle and stole a cellular telephone valued at $500.
ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 4100 block of Rokeby Road reported she was in the 900 block of Longwood St. around 2 a.m. yesterday when she was stopped by two men, one armed with a handgun, who robbed her of cash and property, all valued at more than $500.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Someone drove a car through a large window at the McDonald's restaurant in the 3400 block of Clifton Ave. around 5 a.m. yesterday. Police said that before the driver backed the car out and drove off, property of unknown value was taken.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Employees of Westside Auto in the 2900 block of Wilkens Ave. reported that someone broke into the office over the weekend. Police said it was not immediately known what, if any, property had been taken.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that someone broke into the Amoco service station in the 1800 block of Poplar Grove St. yesterday afternoon by forcing a garage door. Police said it was not known whether any property or money was taken.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- A resident of the 200 block of E. Montgomery St. reported that cash and property, all valued at $800, were stolen from his home over the weekend after someone got in through a window.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- Someone broke into a house in the 1200 block of W. Marshall St. yesterday through a second-floor window and stole property valued at more than $400.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- Employees of Central Transport the 3200 block of Annapolis Road reported that property valued at more than $3,000 was stolen from the building over the weekend. Entry was gained by forcing a door.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- Property valued at more than $600 was reported stolen from a house in the 700 block of S. Charles St. yesterday after someone entered through a rear xTC kitchen window.
CUTTING: Southern District -- Charles Nowlin, of the 2100 block of Greenmount Ave., was in the 3000 block of Stranden Road in the Hollinswood section early yesterday when a man stabbed him in the back with a knife. Police said Mr. Nowlin was taken to a hospital and treated. His condition was not available. His assailant was arrested near the scene and admitted to the University of Maryland Medical Center on an emergency petition. He was being held pending the outcome of psychiatric examinations.
Baltimore County
ROBBERY/ARREST: Towson District -- Police arrested two men early today and were holding them at the station pending burglary, robbery and deadly weapon charges. Officer John Tollen said the men are suspected of breaking into a house in the 8600 block of Pleasant Plains Road around 2 a.m. today through a basement window and robbing the occupant of an undisclosed sum while one of them pointed a shotgun at him. The other man, Officer Tollen said, was armed with a baseball bat. Following the robbery, police broadcast a lookout for the getaway car, a Honda Accord. Moments later, according to Officer Tollen, such a car was seen headed north on Loch Raven Boulevard toward Joppa Road. Officer Tollen said he and other officers followed the car to Loch Raven Boulevard and Cromwell Bridge Road, where it was stopped and its two occupants arrested without incident. Inside the car, said Officer Tollen, were a shotgun, baseball bat and money believed to have been taken in the robbery.
Anne Arundel County
ROBBERY: Arnold -- Police today continued their search for two men who robbed the Pizza Hut in the 900 block of Ritchie Highway last week. Police said two men, one armed with a silver-colored semiautomatic handgun and the other with a sawed-off shotgun, entered the restaurant shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday and announced a holdup. Police said that while one of the men pointed his weapon at the 44-year-old manager and ordered him not to move or he would be shot, the second man forced another employee to open a cash register and give him its contents. Police said both men then fled the building and were last seen driving away in a Chevrolet Camaro that was later recovered near the robbery scene. Police said a check of the car indicated that it had been stolen.
ROBBERY: Glen Burnie -- A 76-year-old Pasadena man reported he was assaulted and robbed of his car last week by a man he offered to drive home from a Glen Burnie bar. The elderly victim, who has only one arm, told police he met a man known as "Red" in the Dugout Bar in Glen Burnie and agreed to drive the man home to Blossom Hills early Tuesday. The victim told police he was turning onto Logan Court when the passenger began choking him and punching him in the face. Forced to stop the car, the driver was robbed of his money before the other man pushed him out and drove away. Police said the victim suffered minor facial injuries that did not require hospital treatment. They said the victim's 1990 Ford Escort has not been found.
BURGLARY: Edgewater -- A resident of the 3300 block of Oak St. reported that someone broke into his home by forcing a door and stole nearly $100.
