Anne Arundel County and military police have arrested a Laurel man on a warrant charging him with a series of thefts at Fort Meade and elsewhere in which private and military property worth more than $300,000 was taken.

Police said the stolen items included a truck, large generators and tools.

The suspect was identified as Eugene Holden, 34, a free-lance mechanic of the 8200 block of Baltimore St. in Laurel.

The stolen property was recovered Thursday in raids at C & C Trucking in the 8100 block of Brock Bridge Road in Laurel and at a house in the 1100 block of Patuxent Road in Odenton.

At the house, police said they found stolen tools stored in the body of a stolen 1991 Mitsubishi truck. The truck's chassis was missing.

Thefts attributed by police to Mr. Holden include break-ins on Jan. 24 at Whimpey's Mineral Inc. and on Jan. 26 at an auto mechanic tool store, both on Brock Bridge Road in Laurel; on Jan. 26 at Tipton Airfield at Fort Meade, and on Jan. 26 and 29 at two auto repair garages used by military personnel at Fort Meade.

The arrest came after a lengthy undercover investigation by county and military police. Federal charges against Mr. Holden are pending.
