Woman slain in struggle over pistol

A 21-year-old woman was fatally wounded early today during a struggle with a man over a pistol in an East Baltimore rowhouse, city police said.

Kia Walker, of the 1600 block of Northgate Road in Northwood, was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound of the head about 2:15 a.m. in the 2400 block of E. Hoffman St.

Police charged the victim's boyfriend, Jasper Thornton, 26, with first-degree murder and a handgun violation.

Mr. Thornton told police his girlfriend was shot accidentally while the two were wrestling over the handgun.

A .357-Magnum revolver with one round fired was recovered.

Police were investigating another East Baltimore shooting today.

Dexter L. Horton 2nd, 21, of the 900 block of E. 20th St., was found with a gunshot wound of the head about 1 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the 2600 block of Harford Road.

Mr. Horton was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where his condition was critical.
