Services for Charles Lambert Flora, a retired vice president and 46-year employee of the Esskay Quality Meat Co., will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the G. Truman Schwab Funeral Home, 5151 Baltimore National Pike.

Mr. Flora, who had lived in Woodlawn and Catonsville since 1935, died Friday of cancer at the Charlestown Care Center in Arbutus. He was 83.

Born in Baltimore, he was a 1926 graduate of Polytechnic Institute. He also studied engineering and planning research at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Baltimore.

In 1926, he worked for one year for General Electric, followed by a year at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In 1927, he began working in the chemistry laboratory at the Schluderberg Kurdle Co., which later changed its name to Esskay.

He worked his way up to chief industrial engineer, and spent his last few years with the company as vice president of research and planning. He retired in 1973.

In 1935, he married the former Kathyrn Elizabeth Keyser, who died in 1966. In 1968, he married his second wife, the former Mary Jane Martin, who died in 1985.

He was a member of the Society for Advancement of Management and enjoyed hiking, reading, playing lacrosse and singing in barbershop quartets.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Sites and Edyth Nelson, both of Ellicott City, and four grandchildren.
