New troupe debuts Friday with 'Line'

Baltimore's newest theater troupe, the Acting Workshop, debuts Friday with Israel Horovitz' "Line," a play about jockeying for position. The production will be directed by the company's founder, Christian Garretson, and will be presented at a half-dozen locations through May 30.

The opening weekend performances will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the BAUhouse, 1713 N. Charles St., and at midnight Saturday at Fells Point Cabaret Theatre, 723 S. Broadway. Tickets are $10, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit either AIDS Action Baltimore or the Fellowship of Lights. @ Ray Cooney's "Out of Order," a British farce about politics, adultery and honesty, opens a five-weekend run at the Spotlighters, 817 St. Paul St., on Friday. Directed by Mike Moran, the production features a cast that includes Rodney Atkins, Roger Buchanan, John Compher and Kevin and Kristina Walsh.

J. Wynn Rousuck The Phoenix Repertory Dance Company, the professional, resident dance company at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, will inaugurate its Maryland composers project Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. at the UMBC Theatre.

"Phoenix Celebrates Maryland Composers" features the collaborative efforts of state composers and company choreographers. Among the works on the program is "In Tandem," a dance about the relationship of two women choreographed by Phoenix artistic director Carol Hess to the music of MacGregor Boyle.
