Area test scores

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The following table shows Baltimore scores on Maryland's new school proficiency tests. The city scores were incomplete in Friday's editions because of a fax transmission problem. The tests are designed to show how well students apply what they've learned in school. Level 1 is the highest level of performance under new state standards, while Level 5 is considered unacceptably low. Most third-, fifth- and eighth-graders who took the test in May scored at the two lowest levels. The columns show the percentage of students who scored at each level.
