TWO MEN FIRE UPON DNR POLICE OFFICER

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Police ended a search late Friday in Severn after failing to find two suspects who shot at a Department of Natural Resources police officer.

Cpl. Daniel Fischer, 28, was patrolling a wooded area east of Burns Crossing and Old Mill roads around 7:30 p.m. when he came across two men about a quarter-mile into the woods.

When the officer heard voices in the dark, he identified himself and pointed a flashlight toward the sound. He heard a single shot from what sounded like a small-caliber handgun and took cover.

The uninjured officer chased the suspects but lost ground. Because it was dark, Cpl. Fischer could not describe the men.

Anne Arundel County,Maryland State and Natural Resources police searched the heavily wooded area with dogs and a helicopter until about 10:30 p.m.
