An article in Saturday's Sun about a 12-year-old boy backing stolen car into a Baltimore police cruiser Friday morning should have said the car was stolen earlier that day. Due to erroneous information from police, it was reported that the car had been stolen in January.

The Sun regrets the errors.

A 12-year-old South Baltimore boy was arrested early yesterday after he backed the stolen car he was driving into a police car while attempting to elude capture, police said.

The youth, a resident of the 400 block of Furrow St., was charged with auto theft and traffic counts.

He was in the custody of juvenile authorities, said Agent Arlene Jenkins, a spokeswoman for the city police.

Officer John Dodge, of the city traffic investigation unit, said Baltimore County Officer Dana P. Kaczynski, of the Wilkens District, observed a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim being driven recklessly on Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore County around 3 a.m.

The officer followed the car for several blocks before noticing that the driver was a youngster.

Later, as the boy drove east in the westbound lane of West Franklin Street in West Baltimore, he turned the car onto Fremont Avenue.

Officer Dodge said the youth then put the car in reverse and struck the front of a patrol car driven by Officer Michael Morey, of the Western District.

The boy was arrested at the scene, police said.

Officer Dodge said the Plymouth was stolen from the 2900 block of Mallview Road in January. The 12-year-old, and possibly other youngsters, had had access to the vehicle ever since, the officer said.
