Luther R. Kinney Jr.

Luther R. Kinney Jr., retired manager of the Office of Public Inquiries of the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, died Monday of cancer at his home on Roundtop Road. He was 59.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Kinney was being offered today at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Old York Road.

He retired in 1987, having worked for Social Security for more than 30 years.

Born in Blydale, Pa., he moved to Baltimore as a young man and attended Morgan State University. He later completed his studies and earned a bachelor's degree at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Catherine Collins; a daughter, Judith Kinney of Chevy Chase; two sons, Vincent Kinney of Hinesville, Ga., and Steven Kinney of Baltimore; three sisters, Mary Brown and Elizabeth Ford, both of Uniontown, Pa., and Claudette Chism of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Fred Kinney of Uniontown and Robert Kinney of Blairsville, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

The family suggested memorial contributions to the outreach ministries of Blessed Sacrament Church.
