SPINDLERS, SUNSETTERS WIN

With their semifinal victories Tuesday in Pasadena over-50 volleyball league action, the Spindlers and the Sunsetters earned the right toface each other in Sunday's best-of-five championship match at 5:15 p.m. at Northeast High.

The Sunsetters stormed back from a two-game deficit to defeat upset-minded Ace Hardware, 5-15, 9-15, 15-4, 15-10, 15-5, with injured player/coach Al Zucchis getting excellent play from Paul Brunell, John Hoffman and Rodger Van Horn.

Ace was paced by Ray Adkins and Earl Locklear.

In the other semifinal, the top-seeded Spindlers defeated a pesky Betty and Jakes' squad, in straight games, 15-11, 15-12, 15-6. Six Spindlers players registered five service winners each, with Bruce Prunkl (10 winners, six digs), Dave Winkles (eight winners, four kills) and Paul Zimmerman (three kills) on attack.

Tim Nulter had seven winners, six kills and three each in aces and blocks for Betty and Jakes', with help fromHerb Saffield (nine winners, three aces), Bob Pularo and John Powell.
