"American Me" follows as a charismatic and gifted Hispanic-American rises in the world. Unfortunately, the profession he has chosen is crime, and he manages to run the Los Angeles chapter of the Mexican mafia from Folsome prison. Edward James Olmos stars and directed. Rated R.

"The Mambo Kings" watches as two Cuban brothers arrive in the New York of the '50s and bring an infectious new beat with them. Armand Assante stars. Rated R.

"My Cousin Vinny" is a comedy thriller which follows Brooklyn attorney Joe Pesci's adventures in Alabama when he tries to save his cousin and a friend from an unjust murder rap. Watch for Marisa Tomei as his fiancee: a star may be born. Rated PG-13.

"The Double Life of Veronique" is a glossy, romantic and mysterious Polish-French production that stars the luminous Irene Jacob and plays with themes of mystical doubleness in the universe. That's OK because we get to see Irene Jacob twice. Rated R.

"This Is My Life" marks Nora Ephron's debut as a director, in a story about a New York woman trying to be both a star and a mom at the same time. Julie Kavner plays Dottie Engels, who tries to have it all. Rated PG-13.
