Spies needed

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

Continued spying on the former Soviet Union still is necessary, according to the majority of callers to SUNDIAL. Among 237 respondents, 168 (71 percent) took this position, while 69 (29 percent) said that continued spying is not necessary.

A majority of callers favored the United States' plan to establish embassies in 14 former Soviet republics, a plan designed in part to provide listening posts in each republic. Respondents taking this position numbered 179 (76 percent), while 55 callers (23 percent) did not favor the plan.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
