New ideas, old lamps see the light in a Chestnut Avenue store

THE BALTIMORE SUN

One day Patricia Ackman saw something she thought would make a fine lampshade, so she made a lamp to fit it.

Then she made another. She got more ideas and made more. Then there were more ideas and more ideas. And before she knew it she was in trouble. "You can't have 12 lamps sitting in the living room," she says.

When she had made 50 lamps she decided to have an open house, a invitation-only show and sale of her work. When 25 lamps went out the door that day, she knew she was on to something.

So she opened Light Again, a shop on Chestnut Avenue in Hampden. There she sells lamps she has designed and made -- many of which incorporate found and recycled parts. She also sells old lamps she has refurbished, plus a selection of pictures and collectibles that seem to fit in with the eclectic atmosphere of the shop. She also does rewiring and sells lamp parts.

Light Again is located at 3551 Chestnut Ave. The hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 2 p.m. Sundays. The telephone number is (410) 243-7169.
