Loyola swamps Penn, 16-9

PHILADELPHIA -- Loyola scored the first four goals and breezed past Penn, 16-9, in the second half of the Philadelphia Classic doubleheader at Franklin Field yesterday. The game was played in a raging rainstorm.

The Greyhounds (2-0) controlled 21 of the 28 faceoffs and had a 12-1 lead in the third quarter. It was 16-2 in the fourth quarter before the Quakers rallied against the Loyola reserves.

Eight players scored for Loyola, with Jim Blanding getting five goals and three assists. Kevin Beach had three goals and five assists.

In the first game, Sean Haggerty scored four goals and Doug Durocher contributed three goals and won 22 of 28 faceoffs, as Villanova defeated Notre Dame, 14-10.
