The blanket of thick fog draped over much of the state today was expected to linger in lesser form through tomorrow, but Sunday should bring sunshine and maybe a preview of spring, weather forecasters say.

The fog that blanketed most of central and eastern Maryland lifted by late morning.

But lighter fog, accompanied by drizzle, will remain in the region through tomorrow, said Amet Figueroa, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

On Sunday, the skies should clear and temperatures could reach the low 70s, Mr. Figueroa said.

The fog did cause some congestion this morning at BWI, said Carol Riley, an airport spokeswoman.

Ms. Riley said there were some slight delays in arriving and departing flights. Some flights were diverted to BWI from airports to the south.

In Kent County, school officials delayed the opening of public schools 90 minutes because of the weather.

State Police reported no major traffic problems due by the fog.
