HEARING ON BOATING RULES TONIGHT

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The public will get a final look at the latest boating restrictions proposed for the Magothy River during a hearing tonight at Broadneck Senior High School in Cape St. Claire.

The state Boating Administration will accept comments about the restrictions, including a 6 mph speed limit on most of the 30 creeks and coves, beginning at 7 p.m.

In response to water skiers who packed Magothy Middle School lastNovember, the Boating Administration has amended the proposal to allow skiing in Eagle Cove and the Magothy Narrows on weekdays during the April 15-Oct. 15 boating season.

Gibson Island residents requested the limits to ease congestion and eliminate hazards that occur when boaters must navigate their yachts through the skiers.

Water skiers, who need speeds of about 18 mph, said the speed limits and weekend restrictions will force them out into the main stem of the river, where other boat traffic and waves pose a greater danger. No limit isproposed for the main stem.
