ASSAULT: Northern District -- A resident of the 4400 block of Old York Road reported she was at home last evening when her estranged husband broke into the house. During an argument in the basement, police said, the man threatened her with an ax. Police said the woman wrestled the ax from the man, who then pulled out a knife. Police said the woman's screams alerted a neighbor, who entered the house, and the husband fled. Police said the woman was not injured and was advised to seek a warrant for the man's arrest.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that someone entered Kid City, a clothing store in the 2800 block of Greenmount Ave., yesterday evening and stole three child-size sweat suits valued at more than $100.

THEFT: Northern District -- Employees of the Gap store in the 500 block of E. Belvedere Ave. reported that a couple entered the business shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday and left moments later with four pairs of pants without paying for them. Police said the pants were valued at nearly $360.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 3500 block of Ash St. reported that someone broke into her home yesterday afternoon after removing a lock from a door and stole a TV, tools and cash, valued at more than $400. Police said a person known to the occupants is suspected of stealing the property.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Employees of L&H; Hardware in the 5400 block of York Road said a man entered the store shortly before 6 p.m. yesterday and forced them to give up less than $100 from the cash register while implying he had a handgun.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Property valued at more than $1,000 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 1000 block of Woodson Road after someone got in by forcing the basement door. Police said the intruder escaped with a TV and a VCR.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A man with a handgun robbed the Mail Packaging Depot in the 400 block of E. Belvedere Ave. yesterday morning of an undisclosed sum. The gunman, police said, entered the business shortly before 10 a.m., demanded money from the cash register while pointing the gun at an employee and then fled.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- The owner of a house in the 2600 block of Keyworth Ave. reported that someone broke into the dwelling between Friday and yesterday and stole a toilet and a sink of unknown value.

THEFT: Northern District -- A man who left his car parked in the 1300 block of W. Cold Spring Lane over the weekend said someone removed the vehicle's wheel covers, which were valued at more than $200.

THEFT: Northern District -- A cellular telephone was reported stolen yesterday from a car parked in the 4300 block of Rugby Road. The owner of the car, who is a resident of Rugby Road, told police entry was gained by breaking a window. Police said

the combined cost of the telephone and replacing the window was more than $1,000.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A 16-year-old reported he was in the 5500 block of Ivanhoe Ave. early Sunday evening when he was assaulted by an older youth who robbed him of a bracelet valued at more than $100.

ROBBERY/SHOOTING: Southwestern District -- Kevin Wallace was treated at Bon Secours Hospital after he was shot during a robbery in the 1200 block of Bloomingdale Road. Police said Mr. Wallace was accosted by an armed man around 2:30 a.m. yesterday and robbed of cash and property, all valued at more than $100. Police said the gunman then shot Wallace in the left arm before fleeing.

SHOOTING: Southwestern District -- A man walking in the 2100 block of Hollins St. Sunday afternoon was stopped by a man with a handgun who shot him in the leg. Police said the victim, Michael Boyd, was taken to Bon Secours Hospital, where he was treated and released. Mr. Boyd told police he knew of no reason why the man would shoot him.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A woman walking in the first block of S. Hilton St. yesterday was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her purse, which contained cash and property valued at more than $100.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 2300 block of Hollins St. over the weekend by forcing a side door and stole property valued at more than $2,000.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 4900 block of Goodnow Road reported that someone entered her apartment yesterday after breaking a kitchen window and stole $200 from a dining room table.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Jewelry valued at nearly $300 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 6500 block of Pioneer Drive yesterday after someone got in with a key.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- The owner of Gibson's Beauty & Barber Hair Stylist in the 5600 block of Bowleys Lane reported that someone entered the business yesterday and stole a TV, cash and a safe. Police said the property was valued at more than $1,000 and that entry appeared to have been with a key.

Baltimore County

ROBBERY TRY: White Marsh District -- A resident of the 5600 block of Leiden Road told police she was walking near her home shortly before 8 p.m. yesterday when she was approached from behind by a man who placed an unknown object against her back and demanded her money. Police said the woman cried out and the man fled.

ROBBERY: White Marsh District -- Two men robbed a jewelry store at the White Marsh Mall yesterday of two watches valued at $7,000. Employees of Littman Jewelers reported the men entered the store last night and asked to see watches. When an employee opened a display case and took out two Rolex watches, each valued at $3,500, one of the men struck the employee in the face and grabbed the watches. Police said the escaped and the employee was not injured.

BURGLARY: White Marsh District -- A resident of the 8900 block of Lennings Lane reported that someone broke into his home yesterday through a rear door and stole a $300 white wicker chair from a sun room.

BURGLARY: White Marsh District -- Someone broke into a mini-storage locker in the 12000 block of Pulaski Highway yesterday and stole a VCR, TV, microwave oven and stereo equipment. Police said the property was valued at more than $2,000.

ESCAPE: Towson District -- Police today issued a warrant for the arrest of a 25-year-old woman who escaped from the county work-release center yesterday. They said Anna Lee Welch, of Essex, failed last night to return to the center, in 200 block of Courthouse Court, after working at an area towing company. Police said that when Welch failed to check in at 6:30 p.m., a warrant was issued charging her with escape.

BURGLARY: Towson District -- A resident of the 900 block of Breezewick Road reported that someone broke into his home through a rear basement window between Friday and yesterday and stole a VCR valued at more than $300.

BURGLARY: Towson District -- Employees of the Woodbrook Citgo service station in the 6200 block of N. Charles St. reported that someone broke into the station Sunday night or early yesterday and stole nearly $500 worth of cigarettes. Police said entry was gained by breaking a pane of glass out of a door.

Anne Arundel County

DRUG ARRESTS: Edgewater -- Police checking to see why a car was stopped on the side of a road late last week arrested the occupants and charged them with possession of PCP with intent to distribute. Police said the driver got out of the car and staggered while being interviewed by one of the officers who stopped to see if the occupants needed help. While searching the car, police found a small canister containing PCP and placed the driver and his passenger under arrest. Charged were Ronald Jeffrey Vaughan, 30, of the 3700 block of Bay Drive in Mayo, and Dennis Eugene Railey, 38, the passenger, whose address was not immediately available.

DRUGS SEIZED: Linthicum -- Two men who alighted from an Amtrak train at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport station Thursday night were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine. The cocaine, police said, was packaged in more than 100 plastic bags and 15 vials and had a street value of more than $5,000. Police said drug enforcement officers on duty at the station spotted two men who got off the train and headed toward a restroom. In the restroom, police said, the officers saw the men placing a package inside a trash can. Recovered from the trash can, police said, was a package containing nearly 60 grams of cocaine. Charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and bringing cocaine into the state were Kerry Bethea, 22, of the 6100 block of Turnabout Lane in Columbia, and Timothy Ricks, 24, of the 300 block of Ellis Ave., in Irvington, N.J.

BURGLARY: Lothian -- A resident of the 5500 block of Southern Maryland Blvd. reported that someone broke into his home by forcing a door and stole a TV valued at $200.

Harford County

ROBBERY CHARGES: Abingdon -- Two juveniles arrested last week in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience store have been charged as adults and remain in custody at the county detention center in lieu of $25,000 bail each. Police said John B. Bonham, 16, and Clint E. Rhodes, both of Delta, Pa., have been charged in the robbery of less than $300 from the 7-Eleven store in the 3000 block of Abingdon Road. A county sheriff's deputy spotted a pickup truck used as a getaway vehicle stopped at Main Street and Broadway in Bel Air shortly after the holdup and arrested both occupants without incident. In a search of the vehicle, police recovered money believed to have been taken and a knife believed to have been used in the robbery.

BURGLARY: Aberdeen -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the first block of Roosevelt Ave. and stole a TV, kitchen utensils and other property, valued at about $300.

THEFT: Bel Air -- A resident of the first block of Heighe St. reported that someone broke into his car while it was parked near his home and stole a Bazooka-brand speaker valued at $300.

BURGLARY: Edgewood -- Property valued at more than $500 was stolen from a dwelling in the 400 block of Meadowwood Drive after someone forced a door. Police said the burglar escaped with a VCR, jewelry and cash.

BURGLARY: Edgewood -- A guest at the Quality Inn in the 1700 block of Van Bibber Road reported that someone entered his room while he was out and stole nearly $5,000 worth of jewelry.

Howard County

BURGLARY: Columbia -- Someone reportedly broke into l lTC

dwelling in the 6000 block of Majors Lane by lifting a window off its track and stole property valued at several hundred dollars. Police said the thief escaped with a microwave oven, jewelry and a VCR.

BURGLARY: Elkridge -- The owner of a barn in the 6200 block of Hanover Road reported that someone entered the building after breaking a lock and stole tools, tires, mag wheels, several doors, welding equipment, more than two dozen aluminum beams and garden equipment. Police said an air-compressor was stolen the next day by two men seen driving off in an old model Ford pickup truck. Police said the value of the property was not known.
