What's in a name?

Apparently a lot if you're a North County resident planning to ride Maryland's new light rail line from Glen Burnie to Timonium.

The Maryland Transit Administration had planned to name the new terminus in Glen Burnie "Dorsey Road," after its location at the intersection of Dorsey Road and Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard.

But several Glen Burnie and Ferndale residents felt the name should reflect more than the closest thoroughfare.

"They had come to us at a meeting in December and told us how they felt," said MTA spokeswoman DianaRosborough, referring to community representatives. "The only problem was, a lot of signage (reflecting the Dorsey Road name) was alreadyin place."

But after residents explained why they thought the name should be changed and offered some suggestions for new names, the MTA decided to reconsider, Rosborough said. MTA decided last week to change the name to "Cromwell Station/Glen Burnie," after the communityand Cromwell Farms and Cromwell Manor.

Glen Burnie resident Katherine DeGrange, a member of the community's Station Enhancement Committee, said residents think the new name is appropriate.

The new station, including 750 parking spaces, is expected to be completed in the summer of 1993.
