An important fund-raiser for the American Red Cross, Central Maryland Chapter is coming up this Saturday, and Linthicum resident Susan Rosko is very much involved with it.
Rosko is on the committee for the "Leap into Elegance" gala Mardi Gras celebration, which will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight at the home of Jack and Sharyn Steffey in Annapolis.
Their stately Victorian house will be the site of a gourmet buffet dinner prepared by award-winning Master Chef Adi Rehm. Chef Rehm, who is donating his services, will offer delicacies like grilled sataikebab, Gruyere fondue, Peking duck in small pancakes, assorted patesand international cheeses, oysters, clams, smoked salmon, filet of beef carved to order and much more.
A choice of beverages will be available from an open bar. A piano and flutist will provide music allevening at this black-tie optional event. Valet parking is included.Rosko said only 150 tickets are available at $100 per person. All proceeds will help replenish the Disaster Relief Services Fund.
Rosko is 1991-1993 chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Central Maryland Chapter, Southern District, American Red Cross and places great emphasis on helping fund Red Cross programs.
Her involvement with the Red Cross began 20 years ago, processing blood as a medical technologist in a Western Pennsylvania Red Cross Center. She continued her association with the Red Cross, working at other donor centers andhospital blood banks in the central Pennsylvania area.
Since moving to Linthicum 15 years ago, Rosko has continued her active volunteer involvement with the organization. She worked for four years in Harbor Hospital Center's Blood Bank and Donor Room, served on several committees on the Baltimore Red Cross Board of Directors and worked with the Anne Arundel County Red Cross Chapter.
She has been a Realtor for 12 years, six of them as owner of Susan Rosko and Associates Realtors. Even with the hectic schedule her business demands, Rosko says, "It is very important to give back to the community that has givenso much to me. The time volunteered is so satisfying."

Jo Barker, Delores Schuman and Eloise Vaughan, members of the music committee of the Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights, recently got together to plan the summer concerts sponsored by the club each year.
The "Concerts in the Park" series runs for six Sunday evenings, starting July 5 at Linthicum Park on Benton Avenue. The Continentals, under the direction of Mike Surratt, will return this season with Bavarian and polka music. Other groups are being contacted by the committee in hopes of bringing avariety of musical entertainment to the community.

Anyone interested in nursery school for 3- and 4-year-olds is encouraged to attend open house at theArundel Nursery School at 7 p.m. Monday.
Parents are invited to visit the school, tour the classrooms and meet the teacher and other parents. A brief slide presentation will give an overview of how the school is run and show what the children do.
Arundel Nursery Schoolis a parent-run pre-school for 3- and 4-year-olds that is licensed by the Department of Human Resources and accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education. The school offers a planned instructional program led by a teacher certified in early childhood education. Parent participation is required of all of its members.
The school offers morning and afternoon sessions for 3-year-olds on Tuesday and Thursday and for 4-year-olds on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

A Mardi Gras Talent Show sponsored bythe student council of St. Philip Neri School is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in the school hall, 6401 Orchard Road.
Students from kindergarten to eighth grade will perform in the 30 or more variety acts planned.
The community is invited to buy tickets at the door the night of the show. The cost is $1 per person. Snacks will be sold during in termission. All proceeds go to the school.

The Linthicum Library is havingStorytime for children ages 2 to 6, from March 4 to April 9.
Ages3 to 6 will meet Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. and 2-year olds at 11 a.m. Ages 2 to 6 will meet as a group on Thursdays at 7 p.m.
No registration is required for Storytime, and there is no charge. Parents mustaccompany 2- and 3-year-olds.
If you find you need additional 1991 state and federal income tax forms, the library has them free. A copy machine is also available for your use at 15 cents per copy.

Overlook Elementary School is involved in a Family Literacy Project focusing on the needs of students and parents in kindergarten through second grade. The main goal of the project, paid for by the state Department of Education, is to encourage children and adults to share in the joy of reading and writing.
The first meeting of the year will be tonight at 7. Students and parents are invited to attend. The themefor the Read Aloud Program will be "Bedtime at Overlook." Teachers in kindergarten through second grades and the school's reading specialist have put together an informative program on the importance of reading aloud. They will give out some tips about how and when to read aloud with your child. The sessions also feature a great deal of student involvement.
Children are encouraged to come in their pajamas so they will be ready for bed after the meeting. Cookies and milk willbe served as a bedtime snack. Children may also bring their favoritestuffed animal or pillow. Door prizes will be awarded.

Hospice of the Chesapeake (formerly Arundel Hospice) is sponsoring a groupfor parents who are grieving the death of a child.
Meetings are on the first and third Mondays of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hospice office, 403 Headquarters Drive, Suite 1, Millersville. The next meetings will be on March 2 and 16.
