A fire at a Long Corner Road home sent a 12-year-old girl to the hospital and caused $20,000 in damage Friday, fire officials said.

Four children, ages 11 to 14, were home alone when the fire broke out at the home of Douglas Fink and Anita Preston, in the 1900 block of Long Corner Road.

Tiffany Fink jumped 12 to 15 feet from a second-story porch to escape the fire. She was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said Deputy Battalion Chief Donald Howell, where she was treated for smoke inhalation.

The other three children were taken to Montgomery County General Hospital for minor injuries. They are: April Fink, 14, Douglas Fink, 11, and Cheryl Reynolds, 12.

The children's parents,Douglas Fink and Anita Preston, were at work when the fire occurred.

Howell said the fire caused heavy smoke damage throughout the house.

Firefighters were called at about 5 p.m. and had the fire under control within 20 minutes, Howell said. The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The family will be staying with relatives in Wheaton.


Five firearms, including a 12-gauge shotgun, were stolen Wednesday from a Laurel home, county police said.

Other weapons taken from the home, in the 8800 block of Bluebird Terrace, were two .22-caliber pistols and two rifles, police said. The weapons were stored in one of the rooms of the house.

The burglar or burglars, who entered sometime before 3:30 p.m. through a side basement window, also stole cash and telephones, police said. Entry into the basement was apparently made when a screen window was pried open.


Four men were charged with intent to distribute PCP Thursday after a patrol officer pulled a car over for a traffic violation and found a quart of parsley flakes soaked in the hallucinogen, county police said.

The four were arrested at 12:15 a.m. after theofficer pulled the car over on U.S. 1 near Montevideo Road in Jessup. After the driver agreed to a search of the car, the officer found the quart jar containing the drug, police said.

Arrested were Eric Johnson Ferguson, 22, of the 8300 block of Linda Court in Savage; Keith Howard Christensen, 23, of the 8300 block of Grove Road in Ellicott City; Steven Keith Hollingsworth, 24, of the 8200 block of Lark Brown Road in Elkridge; and Richard Fred Burton, 21, of Baltimore.

5500 block of Sterrett Place: A person was hit on the head with a gun and robbed of his wallet and chain near Bennigan's at 2:20 a.m. Feb. 16.

5300 block of Brookway: A person opened the door of a pizza delivery vehicle, pointed a gun at the head of the driver, demanded money and fled on foot toward a nearby 7-Eleven at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 16.

5300 block of Brookway: Someone was stabbed outside an apartment during a party at 6 a.m. Feb. 16. The victim walked from the 7-Eleven to Brookway and asked residents to call for help.

8800 block of Tamar Drive: A rear window of a home was broken between 6 a.m. Feb. 11 and 10:15a.m. Feb. 14.

6700 block of Bushraner Path: Power tools were taken from an open garage between 6:30 p.m. last Sunday and 12:30 a.m. Monday.

6600 block of Seneca Drive: Power and other tools were takenfrom a shed between 11:30 p.m. Feb. 14 and 8:15 a.m. Feb. 15.

4900 block of Snowy Reach: A lawn mower was taken from an unlocked shed between 6:30 p.m. last Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday.

6900 block of Oakland Mills Road: A computer was taken from a business at about 3 a.m.Monday after the front door was smashed with a rock.

9800 block of Patuxent Woods Drive: A computer was taken from a business between noon Feb. 14 and 3 p.m. Feb. 16.

9500 block Guilford Road: A clock, lamp and lounge chairs were taken from a business showroom trailer between 5 p.m. last Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. The burglar pried a window open.

10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway: A fax machinewas taken from an unlocked office between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Feb. 14.

8800 Blade Green Lane: A 1987 Nissan 300 ZX was stolen at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 16.

6900 Garland Lane: Someone attempted to steal a 1988 Ford van between 9 p.m. Feb. 14 and 6 a.m. Feb. 15.

10300 Little Patuxent Parkway: Someone attempted to steal a 1990 Isuzu Trooper by jamming a screwdriver in its ignition.

9200 block of Berger Road: Someone attempted to break into a home by using pliers on a doorknob between 5 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

10900 block of Route 99: A 1992 Pontiac Sunbird was stolen between 10:30 p.m.Tuesday and 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

8600 block of Andrew Ellicott Court: Appliances were taken from a home between 6:30 p.m. Monday and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.


5800 block of Whisper Way: Stereo equipment was taken from a home between 7 and 11 p.m. Feb. 14. The burglar pried the door open.

6700 block of Goshen Hunt Road: A furnacewas taken from a house under construction between 5 p.m. Feb. 7 and 7 a.m. Feb. 10.

6500 block of Ducketts Lane: A 1991 Honda motorcycle was stolen between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday.

Race Road and Church Lane: A 1988 Chevrolet Camaro stolen from Anne Arundel County was found burned in a wooded area on Wednesday.

7000 block of Montgomery Road: Locks were hammered off the door of a business between 5 p.m. Feb. 7 and 8 a.m. Feb. 10.


8300 block of Bristol Court: A computer monitor and keypad were taken from a business at 8 p.m. Feb. 15.

7100 block of Montevideo Road: A 1991 Toyota truck wasstolen between midnight and 7:45 a.m. Monday.

6200 block of Sandrise Court: A 1991 Ford Mustang was stolen between 10 p.m. Tuesday and8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

6800 block of Deerpath Road: Someone attempted to steal a 1988 Honda Accord by prying the ignition between 7:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday.
