THEFT: Central District -- State officials reported to police that someone entered offices at the State Office Building in the 200 block of W. Preston St. yesterday evening and stole three radios and a cassette recorder. Police said the property was valued at more than $125.
THEFT/ARREST: Central District -- Police said someone broke into a 1989 Mazda while it was parked in the first block of E. Hamilton St. yesterday and stole a brown leather jacket. Shortly after the theft was broadcast, Sgt. Thomas Cutler spotted a man running near the scene of the theft and carrying a brown leather jacket. Police said Sgt. Cutler stopped the man and held him for investigation. Later, it was determined the jacket had been stolen from the car and the man was charged with theft. Police said Charles Hayes, 32, of the 2000 block of N. Charles St., was being held at the station pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.
BURGLARY: Central District -- Employees of Attitude Salon, in the 100 block of Park Ave., reported that someone broke into the business between yesterday evening and early today and stole an AM-FM radio. Police said the property was valued at $100 and that entry was gained by forcing open a rear window.
THEFT: Western District -- Employees of the Zip Trucking Co. in the 500 block of N. Schroeder St. reported that while a company tractor-trailer was parked near the building yesterday, someone broke into the trailer and stole three kitchen chairs. Police said the chairs were valued at $500.
BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 1000 block of Edmondson Ave. reported that someone broke into her home by forcing open a door and stole a combination VCR, TV and stereo, several pieces of jewelry, a telephone answering machine and clothing. Police said the property was valued at more than $2,500.
BURGLARY: Western District -- Police said property valued at more than $500 was stolen from a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of N. Carey St. after someone entered through a window off the fire escape. Police said the break-in occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
THEFT: Western District -- A resident of the 1600 block of W. Fairmount Ave. told police a man she knows was staying at her home and that when she returned home Tuesday, she discovered that her 13-inch TV was gone. The victim told police the TV was valued at several hundred dollars. Police said they were seeking a man known as James.
BURGLARY: Western District -- Officials of St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center in the 300 block of E. 25th St. reported that someone broke into a house the center owns in the first block of N. Bruce St. and stole property valued at more than $800.
THEFT: Western District -- Police said someone broke into a rented car while it was parked in the 3200 block of Auchentoroly Terrace and stole a stereo radio valued at more than $200. Police said the car was registered to an out-of-town car rental firm.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 300 block of E. 31st St. reported that someone entered her home and stole a VCR, TV and a radio. Police said the property was valued at nearly $1,900 and that entry appeared to have been with a key.
ROBBERY: Northern District -- Police said two men robbed a resident of the 2000 block of N. Charles St. Tuesday afternoon as he walked in the 2900 block of Barclay St. The victim told police that while one man kept a hard object in his back, the other man robbed him of his cash and a leather coat. Police said the total value of the property was not known.
ROBBERY: Northern District -- A 14-year-old resident of the 900 block of Belgian Ave. told police he was in the 4900 block of St. George's Ave. Tuesday afternoon when he was accosted by a man with a handgun who ordered him to give up his jacket. Police said the youth gave the gunman his jacket that was valued at $100.
THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 2900 block of Edgecombe Circle North reported that someone entered her apartment and stole a VCR, jewelry and a portable radio. Police said the property was valued at more than $600 and that a man known to the victim was being sought in connection with the theft.
THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a car yesterday while the vehicle was parked in the 3400 block of San Martin Drive and stole a briefcase, a jacket and other personal items. The owner of the vehicle, a resident of the 500 block of Seminary Ave. in Lutherville, told police the property was valued at more than $1,000.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 6100 block of The Alameda told police that someone broke into her home through the rear basement window and stole property valued at nearly $2,700. Police said the intruder escaped with a TV, VCR, stereo equipment and jewelry.
THEFT: Northern District -- A student at Johns Hopkins University in the 3400 block of N. Charles St. reported that someone broke into her 1984 Jeep while it was parked on school property and stole property valued at $400.
ARSON: Northern District -- Police reported that someone set fire to a trash can inside a utility room at the Wyman Towers Apartments in the 3100 block of St. Paul St. yesterday evening. Police said the fire, which was reported around 9 p.m., was confined to the room and caused minor damage. No arrest had been made in the case. No injuries were reported.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 200 block of W. 27th St. reported that someone broke into his home through a rear window and stole property valued at nearly $550. Police said the burglar escaped with a VCR, a computer game, several video tapes and coins.
THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a car while it was parked in the 3900 block of Canterbury Road between Tuesday and yesterday and stole property valued at nearly $140. Police said the owner of the car, also a resident of the 3900 block of Canterbury Road, reported that the thief took a gym bag and several pieces of clothing.
RAPE: Northern District -- Police today continued their search for a man who raped a woman inside a house in the 3400 block of Pall Mall Road Tuesday. Police said the victim, who lives elsewhere, reported she was forced to accompany a man she knows into the house around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, where she was raped. After the incident, police said, the victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment and was released.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 2400 block of Dorton Court Tuesday night and stole an electric clothes dryer. Police said the appliance was valued at nearly $200 and that entry was gained by forcing open the front door.
THEFT: Southern District -- Police said someone stole property valued at $600 from a dwelling in the 100 block of S. Carrollton Ave. Tuesday afternoon. The victim told police that the person who stole the property is known to him. Police said the suspect stole a combination TV and VCR.
BURGLARY: Southern District -- Power tools valued at more than $700 were reported stolen from a dwelling in the 1400 block of Patapsco St. The owner of the house, a resident of the 1400 block of Marshall St., told police entry was gained through a rear door and that the break-in occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
THEFT: Southern District -- Employees of Metropolitan Management in the 100 block of Sudbrook Lane in Baltimore County reported that someone stole a set of security lights that illuminated a building the firm owns in the 900 block of E. Fort Ave. Police said the lights were valued at more than $700 and that the theft occurred early yesterday.
THEFT: Southern District -- Police said someone entered a room at the Pennington Hotel in the 4200 block of Pennington Ave. and stole a VCR. The owner of the property reported that someone entered his room yesterday and stole the property after a member of the hotel staff left the door unlocked after she cleaned the room.
ROBBERY: Southern District -- A resident of the 100 block of S. Schroeder St. reported she was inside a building in the 800 block of W. Lombard St. yesterday evening when she was assaulted by two men who stole her purse. Police said the men escaped with cash and property, all valued at more than $40.
Baltimore County
ROBBERY: Essex District -- Police reported a 19-year-old Essex-area man was robbed of his wallet last night by two men who accosted him outside a 24-hour bank machine in the 100 block of Back River Neck Road. Police said the victim was standing in front of the machine around 10 p.m. and was about to withdraw money when he was approached from behind by a man who sprayed him in the face with a chemical. Police said a second man stood nearby and acted as a lookout. When the victim was sprayed, the robber tried to take the man's wallet. During the struggle, the robber told the victim to let go or he would shoot him. Fearing he would be shot, the victim let go of his wallet and the two men fled. Police said the victim's wallet did not contain any money and that the victim sustained a minor burn on his face, the result of the spray. The victim told police the man did not display a gun when he threatened to shoot him.
Carroll County
PIPE BOMBPIPE BOMB: Westminster -- Police today continue to investigate a pipe bombing that caused about $300 damage to a car that was parked near the first block of W. Green St. Sunday night. Police said the car, a Toyota Corolla owned by a resident of the street, sustained interior damage when the bomb exploded around 11 p.m. Police said the pipe bomb appeared to have been homemade and that they had no motive for the incident. The car's owner told police she had no idea why anyone would want to damage her car. No arrest has been made.
Howard County
CAR THEFT/ARRESTS: Scaggsville -- Howard and Montgomery County police last night arrested two Baltimore men and were holding them pending auto theft charges following a pursuit that began in Silver Spring shortly after 11 p.m. Montgomery County police said an officer spotted two men driving off in a pickup truck after they allegedly tried to steal a vehicle in the 9600 block of Armistead Road in Silver Spring. Police said the officer pursued the vehicle north on U.S. 29 into Howard County. About three miles into the county, the car struck an embankment on Md. 216 near Scaggsville and stopped. Police arrested the occupants and were holding them at the Silver Spring station pending attempted auto theft and traffic violations. Police said the pickup truck had been stolen earlier in Baltimore.
BURGLARY: Columbia -- A resident of the 6600 block of Seneca Way reported that someone broke into his outdoor storage shed and stole several hand and power saws, a drill and a socket set. Police said entry into the shed was by removing a padlock.
BURGLARY: Elkridge -- Police said someone broke into a house under construction in the 6700 block of Goshen Hunt Road and stole an electric furnace. Police said the value of the appliance was not immediately known.
BURGLARY: Elkridge -- A resident of the 5800 block of Whisper Way told police that several pieces of stereo equipment were stolen from his home over the weekend after someone forced open a door. The value of the property was not known.
