* A WYLIE SORT OF GUY: Last Saturday night, Paul Wylie surprisingly won the Olympic silver medal in men's figure skating. His life has not been the same since.
The skating ended about 10:30 p.m. The medals ceremony and a news conference kept him occupied past midnight. Then he, his parents, his girlfriend and his sponsor commandeered a bistro here and celebrated until 3:45 a.m.
Television people from CBS took him back to the International Broadcast Center in Moutiers, showed him tapes of his exciting 4 1/2 -minute freestyle program, put him on a late-night television wrap-up (it was 5:15 a.m. in Albertville) and drove him back to the athletes' village.
Sleep? Not yet. He looked into the computerized message system for athletes, officials and journalists and found 24 congratulatory messages, many from longtime opponents from other nations. He printed out all the messages to take home, answered them all and went to sleep at 8 a.m.
* FRANC-LY SPEAKING: Jean-Claude Killy, co-president of the organizing committee, estimated yesterday that any eventual deficit on the Winter Games would range between $30,000 and $40,000 on a budget of $800,000.
He said it would be April or May before a final tally would be available.
The French Olympic hero said the committee's objective was "not to make money, but to break even."
One area where the committee more than met its goal was ticket sales, where the target had been 800,000, Killy said. He noted that by the end of the Games, more than a million tickets will have been sold.
