Baseball Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to terms with P Tom Glavine (20-11, ERA) on a one-year contract for $2,925,000. Glavine, who made $775,000 last season, had asked in arbitration for $3.4 million; the club had offered $2.3 million.
Baltimore Orioles -- Agreed to terms with OF Mike Devereaux (.260, 19 HRs, 59 RBI, 16 steals, 10 triples) and 1B Randy Milligan (.263, 16 HRs, 70 RBI) on one-year contracts worth $1 million and $1.05 million, respectively. Devereaux, who made last season, had asked for $1,075,000; the club had offered $875,000. Milligan, who made $330,000 last season, had asked for $1.4 million; the club had offered $900,000.
New York Mets -- Arbitrator awarded P David Cone (14-14, 3.29) a record $4.25 million rather than the club's offer of $3 million. Cone made $2.35 million last season.
Philadelphia Phillies -- Agreed to terms with P Steve Searcy (2-1, 4.15), P Toby Borland (club's Minor League Pitcher of the Year), OF Bruce Dostal (.313 in Class AA) and OF Tony Longmire (.288 in Class AAA) on one-year contracts.
Pittsburgh Pirates -- Agreed to terms with P John Smiley (20-8, 3.08) and P Bill Landrum on one-year contracts for $3.44 million and $1.7 million, respectively. Smiley, who earned $1,425,000 last season, had requested $4.1 million in arbitration; the club had offered $2.7 million.
Texas Rangers -- Invited P Floyd Bannister to spring training as a non-roster player. Agreed to terms with C John Russell on a minor-league contract and IF Cris Conlon and OF Donald Harris on one-year contracts.
Denver Nuggets -- F Anthony Cook (1.5 ppg) will have an operation today to repair a separated right shoulder and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
