Services for Geraldine M. Bange of Glen Burnie took place yesterday,at Singleton's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bange, 67, died Feb. 14 at North Arundel Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born and raised in Glen Burnie, graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1941. Mrs. Bange worked as a bus aide for Anne Arundel County for 14 years, until her retirement in 1980.

Her interests included reading, needle arts, crocheting and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Adam N. Bange; two sons, Gerald A.Bange of Davidsonville and Mark A. Bange; two brothers, Andrew JamesHopper and Eugene L. Hopper, both of Glen Burnie; a sister, Evelyn M. Schmak, also of Glen Burnie; and three grandchildren.

JENNIFER WURTZER

STUDENT, 18

Services for Jennifer Lynn Wurtzer of Hanover, a student at Old Mill Senior High School, will take place at 1:30 p.m. today at the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church.

Ms. Wurtzer, 18,a student at Old Mill Senior High, died Feb. 14 at the Maryland Shock Trauma Unit at University Hospital in Baltimore of injuries sustained in a car accident Jan. 27.

Her interests including taking care of her Ford Thunderbird, animals, music and volleyball.

Ms. Wurtzer is survived by her parents, Monte and Dianne Tabor; a sister, Angela Wurtzer; and her aunt and uncle, Lee and Rie Wurtzer of Severn.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Shock Trauma Unit, in care of John Murphy, 22 S. Green St., Baltimore.

ARMY COLONEL, 80

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Edward E. Bird Sr. of Rotonda West, Fla., and Ocean City, formerly of Glen Burnie, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 7:30 a.m. today.

Colonel Bird, 80, died Feb. 13of heart failure at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Fla.

He was born in Medford, Mass., and graduated from the University of Maryland.

Colonel Bird served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for30 years, retiring as a hospital administrator.

He was a life member of the the Retired Officers Association; the "40 & 8" Chapter 1526 of the American Legion in Port Charlotte, Fla.; the American LegionPost 113 in Rotonda West; the VFW in Ocean City; the University of Maryland Alumni Association; the Order of the Elks Chapter 2378 in Englewood; and St. Francis of Assisi Church, Grove City, Fla.

His interests included golf, travel, boating and military history

Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Bradley Kohli; a son, Edward E. Bird Jr. of Pasadena; five step-children, Rose Wieland, Patricia Bird, and Francis Kohli, all of Pasadena, Michael Kohli of Lincolnton, N.C., and Robin Shepard of Crownsville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by the Kirkley Funeral Home.

SUPERVISOR, 81

A Mass of Christian burial for retired electricians' supervisor Victor N. Hutchinson Jr. of Glen Burnie will be offered at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 2 p.m. today.

Mr. Hutchinson, 81, died suddenly Feb. 15 at North Arundel Hospital.

Originally from Philadelphia, he worked at the U.S. CoastGuard Yard at Curtis Bay for more than 36 years, until his retirement in 1974.

He was a member of the Chesapeake Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts of America, the National Model Railroad Association of Montclair, and the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Department. Other interests included photography, wood carving, gardening, reading and computers.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Eileen Hutchinson; a sister, Helen Rose Gillis of Arbutus; a brother, Robert C. Hutchinson of Still Pond; and many nieces and nephews.

JOHN COLGAN SR.

BUSINESSMAN, 69

A Mass of Christian burial for businessman and retired New York City police officer John J. "Chet" Colgan Sr. of Annapolis will take place at noon today at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church.

Born in Ireland,Mr. Colgan grew up in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later joined the New York City Police Department.

During his time with the police, Mr. Colgan rose to the rank of lieutenant. He was a supervisor of detectives and retired after 20 years.

After retiring from the police, Mr. Colgan went into the shipping industry, running several companies in New York and Baltimore. He was honored for his achievements in 1966 by the West Side Businessman's Association as the Man of the Year, and was a member of the Baltimore-based Steamship Trade Association.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Anna Patricia Burke; five children, John J. Colgan Jr., Patricia Colgan, Richard Colgan, and Regina Ricciotti, all of Annapolis, and Jadean Bishop of Sudbury, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

MARTA RILEY

HOMEMAKER, 69

Services for homemaker Marta Riley of Brooklyn Park will take place at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 19 at the Kirkley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Riley, 69, died Feb. 15 of a heart attack at North Arundel Hospital.

Originally from Cuba, she attended Omni House in Glen Burnie. Other interests included travel.

She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Riley; and a brother, Felix Hernandez of Miami, Fla.

DELLA E. MCKOWN

BUSINESSWOMAN, 91

Services for Della Elizabeth McKown of Bowie will take place at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 19 at the Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Mrs. McKown, 91, died Feb. 15 at her home in Bowie of complications due to kidney and respiratory failure.

Born and raised in Wheeling, W.Va., she worked at the Stone and Thomas Department Store there. Mrs. McKown married Harold E. McKown, a former sergeant with the U.S. Special Police of the General Services Administration in 1933, and moved with him to Washington, D.C., just before 1941.

The McKowns moved to Prince George's County in 1947. Mr. McKown retired in 1962, and died in 1968. Mrs. McKown stayed in the area for over 45 years, living in Seat Pleasant and in Forestville.

Mrs. McKown was a descendant of Mareen Duvall of Middle Plantation and several other early Anne Arundel families, including the Stocketts, Wells, Nuthalls, and Pearces.

She is survived by two sons, Barrett L. McKown of Edgewater and Martin H. McKown Sr. of Sagamore Beach, Maine; a brother, Nile B. McCready of Wheeling, W.Va.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five nephews; three nieces; 38 great-nieces and nephews; and 34 great-great nieces and nephews.

PLUMBER, 57

No services are planned for plumber William Linwood "Bud" Miller of Severna Park.

Mr. Miller, 57, died Feb. 13 of cancer at Anne Arundel Medical Center. His body was donated to science.

Originally from Baltimore, Mr. Miller is survived by his mother, Pearl S. Dix of Severna Park, and a step-brother, Sherwood P. Dix of Westminster.
