Chip Ganassi Racing -- Announced that Arie Luyendyk will drive a Lola-Ford in the Indianapolis 500 this May. He won the race in 1990.



Commissioner's Office -- Hired Dr. Robert Millman of Cornell Medical Center as drug adviser and consultant on AIDS-related issues.


Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to terms with P Dennis Burlingame, P Pat Gomez, P David Nied and IF Ramon Caraballo on one-year contracts.

Baltimore Orioles -- Lost arbitration case to P Bob Milacki (10-9, 4.01 ERA), who was awarded $1.18 million rather than the club's offer of $700,000. Milacki made $280,000 in 1991. Hired Mike O'Berry to manage rookie league Bluefield. Signed P Joe Andrzejewski, 21, the Milwaukee Brewers' No. 2 pick in the 1988 draft, and assigned him to Class A Frederick. Signed OF Marcelino Lopez and C Juan Garcia from Panama. Signed OF Scott Metcalf, who played for the club's developmental team in Perth, Australia.

Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to terms with OF Paul O'Neill (.256, 28 HRs, 91 RBI) on a three-year contract worth $10.5 million. O'Neill, who made $1,075,000 last year, had asked for $3.2 million in arbitration; the club had offered $2.2 million.

Colorado Rockies -- Named Mark Corey part-time scout.

Minnesota Twins -- Agreed to terms with C Lenny Webster, P Rob Wassenaar and IF Terry Jorgensen on one-year contracts.

Montreal Expos -- Agreed to terms with OF Matt Stairs, OF John Vander Wal, P Kent Bottenfield, P Pete Young and C Bob Natal on one-year contracts.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Hired Pete Vuckovich as roving minor-league pitching instructor.

Seattle Mariners -- Agreed to terms with P Brian Holman (13-14) on a two-year contract worth $1.55 million. Holman underwent rotator cuff surgery Oct. 10 and is expected to miss at least the first half of this season. Lost arbitration case to OF Jay Buhner (.244, 27, 77), who received $1,445,000 rather than the club's offer of $750,000. Buhner made $247,500 last season.


Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with OF Devon White (.282, 17 HRs, 60 RBI; Gold Glove) on a three-year contract to a three-year contract with an option that is worth a total of $10 million guaranteed. White, who made $800,000 last season, had asked for $3.2 million in arbitration; the club had offered $2 million.


Dallas Mavericks -- Signed F Brian Howard to a 10-day contract.

Phoenix Suns -- Signed G Steve Burtt to a 10-day contract.


NCAA -- Announced that a subcommittee will recommend that Davidson University be the site of the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Division I men's soccer championships. The executive committee will decide at its May 3-5 meeting.


Marietta -- Basketball coach George Freebersyser (17-57) will resign at the end of the season.

West Virginia -- Basketball team suspended starting G Marsalis Basey for breaking team rules and announced he could miss the rest of the season. Mike Boyd will start in Basey's place for the Mountaineers (16-6 overall, 8-2 in the Atlantic 10).


Indianapolis Colts -- Named Ron Blackledge assistant offensive coach. Blackledge was an offensive line coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 10 seasons.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Announced that G Carlton Haselrig (partially dislocated left shoulder) and S Gary Jones (torn rotator cuff in left shoulder) underwent surgery and are expected to fully recover.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Named Tim Ruskell director of college scouting.



Montreal Canadiens -- Suspended LW Shayne Corson (11 goals, 25 assists) indefinitely for his involvement in a bar brawl that club management said hurt the team's reputation.

Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL) -- Placed D Shawn Snesar on the 14-day disabled list. Activated D Keith Whitmore from the injured list.


TeamTennis -- Awarded franchises to Tampa Bay, Fla.; Phoenix; and Vail, Colo., for the 1992 season, which begins on July 8.
