The Skipjacks have recalled goalie Byron Dafoe. The rookie, who had been on loan with the New Haven Nighthawks, is expected to rejoin the Skipjacks in time for tonight's game with the Hershey Bears at 7:30 at the Baltimore Arena.
The Skipjacks had activated radio broadcaster Shawn Simpson as a backup goalie to Ollie Kolzig for Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Rangers in Binghamton, N.Y. Dafoe is expected to start against the Bears.
"Dafoe was to leave for Baltimore after his game with Capital District [a 3-2 win for New Haven in which Dafoe made 42 saves] and barring trouble with the snow he should be here in time for the Hershey game," said Skipjacks coach Rob Laird. "Ollie [Kolzig] has been playing well, but I think Dafoe will help us. Ollie has had some tough luck, but he'll get a victory very soon."
Dafoe was 11-7-2 with New Haven and had a 3.22 goals-against average. He was 8-5-0 with a 3.39 goals-against average in previous stints with the Skipjacks this season.
Baltimore takes its longest losing (six games) and winless (eight games, 0-7-1) streaks into tonight's game. The Skipjacks' last win was against Hershey, 7-4.
"This has been a very frustrating time for us," Laird said. "It's discouraging because we have been working so hard and still we haven't won. We've been getting a lot of bad bounces and bad calls [by the referees] but we have to put this behind us and look to the future. We have to come out of this tailspin."
