Virginia Reese Burnside, 75, retired from Old Baltimore Federal Savings and Loan, died Sunday at her Charleston Retirement Center home, Baltimore County. She was the wife of the late Howard R. Burnside and is survived by daughter Bonnie V. Strack of Lutherville, Baltimore County; son Howard L. Burnside of Upperco; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. today, following visitation at 12:30 p.m., in Our Lady of the Angles Chapel, Charlestown, Dr. David Jones and the Rev. Leslie Metcalf officiating. Intermentwill be in Lorraine Park Cemetery.

Thomas Wilson Shipley Sr., 78, a World War II veteran and a boiler maker, died Sunday at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore. A member of Moose Lodge 152 of Easton, Talbot County, and Oriental Lodge 158 of theA.F and A.M., he is survived by wife Mary Georgianna Shipley; daughters Myrel Sandra Anthony of Snora, Calif., and Leslie Louise Schroeder of here; son Thomas W. Jr. of Winfield; sister Naoma Marie Conley of Charleston, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be 3 to5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burrier Funeral Home, Winfield. Robbie Helen Stonesifer Sanders, 61, a cafeteria staff worker at Emmitsburg Elementary School for many years, died Friday at Gettysburg Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Joseph G. Sanders; two sons; a daughter; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Angell and Vivian Hahn of Taneytown, and Patricia Krenzer of Hanover, Pa.

Margaret P. Cooke, 93, of Blizzard Care Nursing Home, died Sunday. A housewife, she was married to the late Talbott Cooke. Survivors include daughter Ruth L. Mannof Westminster; son John F. Cooke of Escondido, Calif.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 11 a.m. today at A. Larry Earl "Skip" Davidson, 49, a sales manager for Ferreligas of Taneytown, died Saturday at home. A member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Manchester, the Army veteran belonged to American Legion Post 200, here, and Westminster Moose Lodge 1381. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ruby Davidson; sons Brian E. and Craig W. of here; brother Robert Davidson of Millers; and Linda Hamilton of Manchester. Kenneth J. Myers, 81, the owner and operator of Valley Motors here from 1957 to 1982, died Thursday at Hanover (Pa.) Hall Nursing Center. The Carroll native was the husband of the late Anna Marie LeGore Myers. Surviving him are a son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Vogel, 9, daughter of Richard F. and Ashley Thomas Vogel, died Thursday at the Southern Chester County Medical Center in Jennersville, Pa.Other survivors include sisters, Elizabeth A. and Sarah L. Raymond B. Finch, 71, a veteran of World War II, died Friday at University Hospital, Baltimore, after a long illness. He was a supervisor in cable maintenance for more than 42 years with C & P Telephone Co., retiring in 1982. He belongedto the Maryland Orchid Society, Reisterstown United Methodist Churchand C & P's Pioneer Club. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy William Finch; daughters, Donna Spires of Upperco, Patricia Garcia of Finksburg and Joyce Hylton of Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County; sisters Margaret Kieffer of Reisterstown and Helen Byers of White Marsh, both Baltimore County; brother Donald Finch of Reisterstown; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Walter Purdum III, 53, a steamfitter for more than 25 years, died Saturday at his home. Active in Blue Army Cell and friend to the Daughters of St. Paul, he also was a bluebird conservationist who founded and fueled Project Water, a Wakefield Valley community action project. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Daphine Yvonne Purdum; daughtersMaria Babrielle, Amy Kathleen and Rebecca Margaret; sons James Walter and Charles Borromeo Purdum; brother Robert Purdum; and sisters Loretta Lewis, Helen Sullivan, Elsie Easton and Mary Mayne. James E. Dorsey, 77, a B & O Railroad foreman for 40 years, died Sunday at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He also drove a school bus for Carroll County Public Schools and provided trash pickup for the town. A member of Warren United Methodist Church, he was past master of Evening Star Lodge 84. Thehusband of Martha J. Dorsey, he also is survived by daughter Rose Lee Browner of Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel; son Welton V. Dorsey, here; sisters Evelyn Smith of here and Evaleen Winfield of Baltimore; brothers Welton Dorsey of here, and Leon Dorsey of Frederick; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three friends, Seth Payne, Charles Kenny and Emory King; and nieces and nephews. Arthur Vernon Schwatka, 87, husband of Helen Miller Schwatka, died Monday. He was a merchant seaman for 10 years, Baltimore City policeman 16 years and member of Carpenters Local 101 of Baltimore since 1950. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Charles R. Mead of here; brother Charles E.Schwatka of Finksburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Leslie Michael V. Schwatka, and a grandson.

Elvira T. Gervasi Bart, 74, a housewife, died Saturday at Carroll County General Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Hyman Bart; son, Alan R. Bart of Towson, Baltimore County; sisters Theresa Longo, Rosie Lubinskey and Carmela Disney, all of Catonsville, Baltimore County; brothers Anthony Gervasi of Catonsville and Paul Gervasi of Baltimore; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A sister, Josephine Gervasi, predeceased her.

Jimmy Rogers Willis, 55, a barber at Carmen's Barber Shop in Eldersburg, died Friday at home of a heart attack. After attending Sykesville High School, he joined the Army during the 1950s. Survivors include daughter Amy Porter of Jacksonville, Ark.; sisters Faye Fincham and Gloria Shifflett of Sykesville, Flora Moore of Galax, Va., Wilda Albaughof North Beach and Sandra Simmons of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one grandson. Lloyd Glass Jr., 72, husband of Edna M. Yingling Glass, died Friday at Gettysburg (Pa.) Hospitalafter a long illness. A truck driver for 56 years, he drove for C. J. Miller of Greenmount the last 20 years. A World War II veteran, he served in the European Theater and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 22 and VFW Post 467. He belonged to the 29th Division Association and Carroll Post American Legion 31. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-laws Cherie M. and Frank D. Coleman of Hampstead, Terri V. and Jack Keene of Westminster; sisters Wilma Jean Crawford of McSherrystown, Pa., Sylvia Dillow of Laurel, Prince Georges, Evelyn Pechart of Hanover, Pa., Phyllis Fritz and Vicki Bailey of Thurmont, Frederick County; brothers Jesse Glass of Westminster, Fred Glass of Gettysburg, and Dale Glass of Hanover; and two grandsons. He was buried with full military honors.

Leroy J. Dice, 67,a retired vice president of Local 27, died Sunday at Sinai Hospital,Baltimore. An Army sergeant, he was a member of Howard County and Chadwick Golf Club and St. John Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Natalie V. Fornaro Dice; son Mick L. Dice of Baltimore; daughter Donna J. Goonan of Westminster; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. today at St. John Church.

Mary Louise Benson, 82, a retired administrative assistant and women's group member at Westminster United Methodist Church, died Monday at home. Predeceased in 1982 by her husband, Ryle Lynnwood Benson, she is survived by a sister, Margaret A. Riddle of Baltimore and nieces and nephews. Kathryn L. Cerwonka, 54, a member of St. John Catholic Church, died Mondayat home of cancer. Active in the church's Health Care Ministry, she volunteered at Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen, was a Eucharistic minister, member of Charismatic Prayer Group and volunteer teacher in religious education. She is survived by her father, Joseph P. Haselberger Sr. of Cumberland, Allegany County; husband Joseph Cerwonka; daughters Carolyn Cerwonka of Tampa, Fla., Julie Brust of here and Susan Guckenberger fo St. Petersburg, Fla.; sons Michael Cerwonka of Laurel, Prince Georges County, Marine 2nd Lt. Ronald Dale Fletcher, 56, retired from Baltimore County Environmental Protection and Resource Management, died Monday at University Hospital, Baltimore, after a lengthy illness. He owned an interior decorating and painting business for 40 years. He belonged to Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, Westminster Moose Lodge1381, Senior Citizens and Owls Senior Citizens Group of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Fleming Conaway; daughter Margaret L. Franklin of Mount Airy; sons Richard A. of Mount Airy, Raymond A. of Westminster and Robert L. of here; sisters Esther Brown and Enola Burk of Taneytown; brother George Conaway of here; and eight grandchildren.
