The Baltimore Orioles and the state's Department of Economic and Employment Development are inviting fans to a day of baseball on June 6. Actually, a day and a night.
Yesterday, team and DEED officials formally announced "Maryland Marathon Baseball Day," an unusual statewide tour that will take fans to three professional baseball games throughout the state in a frenzied, tightly scheduled 24 hours.
On the baseball tour, fans will see two Orioles' minor-league teams in action before winding up at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The marathon Saturday begins in Hagerstown at 11:05 a.m., when the Class AA Suns will play the Harrisburg Senators, moves to Frederick for a 2:35 p.m. start between the Class A Keys and Lynchburg Red Sox, and then goes to Baltimore's new ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game between the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.
The staggered starting times should allow fans time to get from one ballpark to the next without missing a pitch. But all three games will start on time, even if one or more goes to extra innings, said Josh Waldorf, a DEED sports marketing official.
Tickets to all three games, parking and maps showing ballpark ** routes cost $50 per person, $65 for a family of four. To order tickets or for more information, call 1-800-831-0700. The tour is limited to 1,500 ticket buyers.
