New uniforms planned for Maryland football

When the University of Maryland opens its football season in September, the Terps will have a new coach and new uniforms.

The style still is on the drawing board, but expect the Terps to abandon white shoes for black, and the red helmets will be either black or white. "If the players had their way, they'd be dressed in black from toe to toe," said Ron Ohringer, Maryland's equipment manager.

Cost of the new attire is approximately $21,000.

Maryland made a change in uniform style when Bobby Ross replaced Jerry Claiborne as coach in 1982. Mark Duffner became Maryland's coach Dec. 31, replacing Joe Krivak, who resigned.
