A 33-year-old Fort Meade man was killed when he lost control of his car and smashed into a tree in Howard County yesterday morning.
According to the police report, officers stopped Glenn Phillip Colston,of the 2000 block of 20 1/2 Street, at about 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ridge Road and Route 175 on suspicion of drunken driving.
Officers began talking to Colston, who drove away on Ridge Road. The officers were alerted that Colston was wanted for violating probation.
They followed Colston into Howard County and were joined by officers from that county. Police said he lost control of his car ranoff Montevideo Road and hit a tree.
Colston was pronounced dead at the scene.
PURSE-SNATCHING VICTIM PURSUES THIEF
When a thief snatched her purse yesterday morning, Mary V. Patterson was determined to put up a fight.
The Annapolis woman was trying to unlock the door of her home on Pleasant Street at about 4:40 a.m. when a man came up to her and grabbed her purse, police said. Patterson shoved him andtried to hold onto her purse, but the strap broke in the scuffle.
She opened her door, letting out her dogs. She chased the thief downthe street, police said.
When the man eluded her, she called the police. Five minutes later, an officer stopped a suspect at Clay and Bates streets whom Patterson identified as the thief.
Eric Eugene Wright, 32, of the 1500 block of O'Bery Court, was charged with theft, police said.
GLEN BURNIE MAN CHARGED WITH DRUGS
County police have charged a Glen Burnie man with distributing marijuana Wednesday.
Investigators said officers stopped a man on Furnace Branch Road atabout 4 p.m. and found six ounces of marijuana worth about $1,600. Police also confiscated a scale, $54 and the man's 1987 Ford truck.
Scott Andrew Wolfkill, 31, of the 300 block Beaghan Drive, was takento Northern District to be charged.
WOMAN, 43, KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT
A Linthicum woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when her car was broadsided by another car in Glen Burnie.
Detectives said DianeLynn Ensey, 43, of the 400 block Hammonds Ferry Road in Linthicum, was westbound on Spencer Road at about 3 p.m. when she ran a stop signat the intersection of Spencer Road and Marley Neck Boulevard.
She crossed into the path of another car, which hit her car on thedriver's side.
The driver of the second car, 35-year-old Kenneth Schaeffer, of the 7900 block of Solley Road in Pasadena, and a 2-year-old girl with him were treated at North Arundel Hospital and released.
ST.JOHN'S STUDENT ROBBED OF PURSE
An student at St. John's College had her purse snatched Wednesday night while she was walking on Franklin Street, Annapolis police said.
Deidre Ann Crosse told police a man grabbed her and demanded her purse at about 8:11 p.m. He escaped with her purse and about $36 in cash.
CITY MAN ARRESTED AFTER FOOT CHASE
An Annapolis man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday night after he tried to elude police by running through a pool hall and into a parking lot, police said.
Dale Avery Dickerson, 26, of the 1400 block of Middletown Road, was being held in the Anne Arundel CountyDetention Center yesterday in lieu of a $2,500 bail bond, police said. He faces charges of possessing narcotics and possession with the intent to distribute, police said.
An officer patrolling Clay Street at about 6:40 p.m. chased the man through a pool hall and into a parking lot near the Stanton Recreation Center. The man tossed a bag under the left rear tire of a white Toyota, police said.
Officers retrieved the bag and found a rock of crack cocaine that weighed 14.5 grams, police said.
PHOENIX STUDENT CHARGED WITH DRUGS
A student atthe Phoenix School in Annapolis was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of possessing cocaine, police said.
Students told the principal that one of their classmates had drugs on him. The student was charged shortly after 11 a.m. with possessing narcotics within a schoolzone after police found a brown container with a yellowish white rock that tested positive for cocaine.
