Chicago White Sox -- Named Fred Kendall manager of Class A Utica. P Ken Patterson (3-0, 2.83. ERA, 1 saves) was awarded a $640,000 salary from an arbitrator; the club had offered $400,000.
Cincinnati Reds -- OF Glenn Braggs (.260, 11 HRs, 39 RBI) was awarded a $1 million salary from an arbitrator; he had been seeking $1.34 million.
Los Angeles Dodgers -- Signed P Steve Wilson, OF Tom Goodwin, OF Billy Ashley, C Bryan Baar and IF Eric Young to one-year contracts.
New York Mets -- Agreed to terms with P Paul Gibson (5-7, 4.59 ERA with the Detroit Tigers) and OF Daryl Boston (.275, 4 HRs, 21 RBI) on one-year contracts for $935,000 and $830,000, respectively. Gibson had asked for $925,000 in arbitration and had been offered $565,000. Boston had asked for $1.1 million in arbitration and had been offered $825,000. P Jeff Innis (0-2, 2.66 ERA in 69 games) was awarded $355,000 by an arbitrator; he had sought $650,000.
New York Yankees -- Agreed to terms with former Baltimore Orioles P John Habyan (4-2, 2.30 ERA in 66 games) on a one-year contract for $500,000. He had asked for $620,000; the club had offered $375,000.
Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with IF Jeff Kent, IF Tom Quinlan and P David Weathers on one-year contracts.
Los Angeles Clippers -- Named Larry Brown coach and signed him to a five-year contract.
CBA -- Announced that 1993 All-Star Game will be played in Oklahoma City, Okla.
NCAA -- Granted a request from Clemson to extend the deadline for its response to allegations of rule violations within the basketball program. Clemson must have its report to the NCAA by April 14; the original deadline was Feb. 17.
Northeast Conference -- Named Steve Hurlbut associate commissioner.
Arkansas State -- Named Pete McGinnis defensive coordinator.
Navy -- Named C Steven L. Palmer offensive captain, DB George C. "Chad" Chatlos defensive captain and OL Eric J. McGowan special teams captain. It is the first time the Midshipmen will have football tri-captains.
New Hampshire -- Announced the retirement of Ted Conner, baseball coach, effective at the end of the 1992 season.
Southern Cal -- Named Bob Palcic offensive guards and centers coach. Announced that Ray Dorr, quarterbacks coach, will become offensive coordinator and that Gary Bernardi, tight ends coach, will also work with the offensive tackles.
Texas Christian -- Announced that sophomore C-F Kurt Thomas (5.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg) will be lost for the season with a fractured left leg.
Wake Forest -- DT Marty Kuser, 6 feet 4, 285 pounds, from John Carroll High, signed a national letter of intent.
Detroit Lions -- Signed DE Willie Griffin.
Indianapolis Colts -- Named Alex Gibbs (past two seasons with the San Diego Chargers) offensive line coach and Jay Robertson (Army defensive assistant for eight years) defensive assistant coach.
San Francisco 49ers -- Signed P Robbie Keen, T Ricky Siglar and RB Adam Walker.
Ohio Glory (USFL) -- Named Dennis Thurman defensive coordinator and Wally English offensive coordinator.
NHL -- Rejected an appeal by the Winnipeg Jets of a major penalty that resulted in D Phil Housley's being suspended for one game. Housley, the Jets' leading scorer, missed yesterday's game against the Calgary Flames.
