Driver crushed to death

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

A 70-year-old Queen Anne's County woman was crushed to death yesterday when her car began moving and hit a mailbox post as she was climbing out of it, pinning her in the car door, State Police said.

Mary Lippincott Crudden of Chester Harbor, across the Chester River from Chestertown, was driving her 1989 Toyota Corolla west on Woodstock Road at Central Drive, less than a block from her home, about 10:30 a.m. She stopped the car and started to climb out, apparently without putting the transmission in park, police said.

The car started moving, and she tried to climb back in. She was partially in the car when it hit a mailbox post at the driver's side door. Ms. Crudden was pinned between the door and the frame, police said.

Ms. Crudden was pronounced dead at the scene.
