Man found dead in street is identified

Police said the man whose body was found early yesterday in the first block of S. Pulaski St. has been identified as a 34-year-old West Baltimore resident.

Southwestern District officers responding to a report of a shooting shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday found Melvin Crawford, of the 600 block of N. Carey St., lying in the middle of the street.

Police said Mr. Crawford, who was fully clothed when found, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds to his right side.

Residents who were interviewed by police said they heard gunshots about 3:10 a.m. just before they noticed Mr. Crawford lying in the street.

Police said they had no motive for the slaying and that no arrest had been made.
