ACC to honor ex-Colt McCauley

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Former University of North Carolina and Baltimore Colts running back Don McCauley will receive the Distinguished Football Alumnus Award at the Atlantic Coast Conference's 39th awards banquet Feb. 14 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

McCauley's 1,720 rushing yards for North Carolina in 1970 still stands as the ACC single-season record. He spent 11 years with the Colts, becoming a third-down specialist for most of his career. McCauley is a restaurateur in New York, on Long Island.

Virginia coach George Welsh will be honored as ACC Coach of the Year, and his quarterback, Matt Blundin, will receive the Player of the Year award. Maryland's new coach, Mark Duffner, will be honored along with the rest of the ACC's coaches.
