SOUL SHADOWS: Urban Warrior Myths" and "The Woodbourne Workshops," an exhibition sponsored by the Museum for Contemporary Arts, will run through Feb. 23 in the University of Baltimore's Biddle Street Garage at 1111 Cathedral St.
"Soul Shadows" is an installation by New Orleans artist Dawn Dedeaux which was inspired by her art workshops for juvenile offenders in the Orleans Parish Prison. "The Woodbourne Workshops" displays art produced at recent workshops run by Maryland artists at the Woodbourne Center, a local multi-service treatment facility for severely troubled children.
Both series of workshops were created to allow the children to use the arts to reflect upon their lives.
The exhibition will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The following is a schedule of special events:
* Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.: A gallery talk and tour with Ms. Dedeaux.
* Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.: "The African American Male: An Endangered Species," a video by Elliott Wiley.
* Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.: Gallery talk by staff.
* Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.: "The Woodbourne Workshops," gallery talk and tour by participating Woodbourne artists.
* Feb. 12 at noon: Gallery talk by staff.
* Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.: "We Cry Blood," video by Jacqueline Gill.
* Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.: "The Artist, Social Commitment and Activism," a slide lecture by "Soul Shadows" curator Lisa Corrin.
* Feb. 19 at noon: Gallery talk by staff.
* Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.: "City Lines: A Poetry Reading Across Generations," a reading of original work by children and seniors sponsored by Passager Magazine and Tropos Press.
