THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the Village of Cross Keys told police that sometime between Jan. 15 and yesterday, he lost his checkbook. Yesterday, the resident reported that someone mailed the checkbook back to him but that one check was missing. Police said he contacted his bank and was told the missing check had been made out by someone who forged his name and cashed it for $400.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Two men disguised as employees of a well-known delivery company entered a woman's house yesterday and robbed her. The victim, a resident of the 800 block of Venable Ave., told police two men wearing uniforms arrived at her home around 7:30 a.m. and told her they had a package to deliver. Police said that once the men were in the house, they handcuffed the woman and stole a small safe containing an undisclosed sum of money and other property. Police said the men drove off in a commercial-type vehicle.

THEFT: Northern District -- A woman said that while her car was parked in the 500 block of Venable Ave. yesterday afternoon, someone got into it by breaking a window and stole an in--- stereo radio valued at more than $150.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A woman leaving a 24-hour bank teller machine in the 500 block of Orkney Road around 7:30 p.m. yesterday was accosted by a man with a handgun who robbed her of her keys and $30.

ROBBERY: Western District -- An out-of-town resident reported he was in the 2000 block of McCulloh St. Wednesday afternoon when he was approached by two men who struck him with their fists, took his keys and stole his 1989 Nissan.

SHOOTING: Western District -- A man was treated at St. Agnes Hospital for a gunshot wound of the left hand after an incident in the first block of Gorman Ave. around 3 a.m. yesterday. The victim told police he was approached by a man who pointed a handgun at him and fired at least three shots, one of which hit him in the left hand. The assailant drove off in a light blue, four-door Cadillac bearing Virginia license plates. The victim was taken to the hospital by a friend. Police said they knew no motive for the shooting.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Employees of J&M; Construction Co. in the 900 block of Hargrove St. reported that a dwelling undergoing renovation in the 1300 block of Edmondson Ave. was broken into and a furnace, two kitchen counter tops and a water heater were stolen. Police said the property was valued at $2,000.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A woman walking in the 1600 block of W. North Ave. early yesterday evening was attacked by a man who knocked her to the ground and stole her purse and two gold chains valued at nearly $1,000.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A TV, $40, a set of earrings and a ring were reported stolen from a dwelling in the 2800 block of Westwood Ave. after someone gained entry through a rear door yesterday morning.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A 16-year-old reported he was walking in the 1700 block of W. Lafayette Ave. with a friend when the two were stopped by a youth with a .38-caliber handgun, who robbed him of the jacket he was wearing. Police said an investigation revealed that the armed youth had sold the victim the jacket for $20 earlier.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A teen-ager walking in the 1700 block of W. Lafayette Ave. early yesterday was stopped by a man who pointed a handgun at him and stole his $120 NFL jacket.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A man told police he was in the 1600 block of W. Lafayette Ave. early yesterday when he was accosted by a man he knows who pointed a handgun at him and stole his wallet, which contained $10 and personal papers.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone entered Harlem Park Junior High School in the 1500 block of Harlem Ave. by breaking a padlock on an outside door Wednesday evening or yesterday morning and stole computer equipment of unknown value.

RAPE: Western District -- A woman reported she was in the 2300 block of Warwick Ave. Wednesday night when she was accosted by a man with a knife who forced her to accompany him into a nearby woods, where he raped her and robbed her of $2 before running away. She was taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center for treatment and released.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A woman said she was walking in the 600 block of Linnard St. Wednesday evening when a man approached her from behind and stole her purse, which contained cash and property valued at about $870.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A woman told police she was walking in the 700 block of Woodington Road Wednesday afternoon when a man came up behind her and stole her purse, which contained cash and property of unknown value.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 3600 block of Windsor Mill Road reported that someone broke into his home between Saturday and Wednesday by forcing a door and stole a TV and a VCR, valued at nearly $2,000.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that a driver for a pizza shop in western Baltimore County was making a food delivery in the 700 block of N. Grantley St. Wednesday night when he was accosted by a man with a handgun, who robbed him of an undisclosed sum and escaped on foot.

SHOOTING: Eastern District -- Marcus Berryman, 19, was listed today in serious but stable condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot early yesterday evening while walking his home. Police said Mr. Berryman was in the 2400 block of McElderry St. shortly before 7 p.m. when someone fired a shot that struck him in the back. Police said they had no motive and had made no arrest. Mr. Berryman told police he never saw the person who shot him.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 3200 block of Tyndale Ave. yesterday morning and stole stereo equipment and a VCR, valued at more than $1,300.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- A worker at a construction site in the 1600 block of E. Belvedere Ave. told police yesterday that someone broke into his tool box between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. yesterday and stole hand and power tools valued at more than $600.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Property valued at more than $2,000 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 2700 block of Chesterfield Ave. after someone got in Tuesday through a basement window. Police said the intruder escaped with stereo equipment, at least one package of disposable diapers and a baby stroller.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- A resident of the Frankford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the 5000 block of Frankford Ave. told police someone removed at least one ring from her hand last week. Police said the resident, who is 82 years old and paralyzed, told police the ring was valued at $800. Police said no arrest had been made and that the incident remains under investigation.

ROBBERY TRY: Northeastern District -- An East Baltimore resident was in the 7200 block of Jim Rowe Court in Hollander Ridge Tuesday night when he was stopped by a man with a shotgun who demanded his money. Police said the victim refused to give up his money and was fleeing the gunman when he was shot in the back. Police said the gunman escaped and the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and released.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A man with a knife stopped a pedestrian Wednesday night in the 1700 block of N. Smallwood St. and robbed him of less than $5.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 800 block of N. Gilmor St. reported that someone broke into his home Wednesday and stole a 19-inch TV. Police said the property was valued at more than $200 and that entry was gained through a second-floor rear window.

Baltimore County

ROBBERY/ARRESTS: Towson District -- Two 17-year-olds were being held at police headquarters pending charges that they robbed a pizza shop on York Road last night. Police said two males wearing ski masks entered Caesar's pizza shop in the 6800 block of York Road shortly after 9 p.m. and announced a holdup. One of the men, police said, had a handgun. When an employee cried out and ran out a back door, one of the men jumped over the counter and grabbed money from the cash register. Police said the robbers ran out the front door and got into a white Jeep Eagle. As it drove away, a witness jotted down the license number and gave it to police responding to the report. Shortly before 10 p.m., three city police officers assigned to the Northern District spotted the Jeep in the 1400 block of W. Cold Spring Lane and stopped it. Police said the Jeep had been stolen and the youths were taken to the Northern District, where they were charged with auto theft before being turned over to county police.

Anne Arundel County

VANDALISM: Crofton -- Someone slashed the convertible top of a Mazda Miata parked on the lot at the Annapolis Mall and then poured a box of cold breakfast cereal into the vehicle. The owner of the sports car, a 42-year-old Crofton resident, told police he left the car on the lot Sunday night and returned Monday morning. The man reported that in addition to the slashed top and the cereal in the car, someone had written the word "Yo" on the hood with a black marking pen and had stolen an in--- tape player.

DRUG ARREST: Annapolis -- After stopping a car near Glenwood Drive and Harwood Place Wednesday morning because one of its headlights was out, police said, they searched the vehicle and found a black film canister containing a small amount of cocaine. Charges of possession of cocaine were placed against Douglas Cantrel, 24, of the 1100 block of Bayview Vista Drive in Annapolis.

BURGLARY: Crofton -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 1400 block of Jordan Ave. by forcing a door and stole money and other property, all valued at nearly $160.

BURGLARY: Linthicum -- Property valued at more than $11,000 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 6400 block of Oak Park Court after someone broke in through a window. Police said the intruder escaped with jewelry, ski equipment, appliances and other property.

BURGLARY: Severn -- A color TV of undetermined value was reported stolen from a house in the 1700 block of Circle Road after someone got in by forcing a window.
